LSC Indoor Track and Field All-Academic team announced

Texas A&M-Commerce’s Iniuto Ukpong and Texas A&M-Kingsville’s D.J. Delancy were selected as the Lone Star Conference Academic Athletes of the Year on Wednesday when league officials announced the LSC's annual academic awards for men's and women's indoor track and field.

Ukpong headlined a group of 11 on the LSC Women’s All-Academic team, while Delancy led 11 standouts on the LSC Men’s All-Academic team.

Ukpong, a senior health, kinesiology, and sport studies major from Arlington, Texas, is fourth on the LSC performance list in both the shot put and weight throw.

A senior biomedical sciences major from Bethel Town, Jamacia, Delancy ranks first in LSC in the shot put and eighth in the weight throw.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Athlete of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.

On the women's team with Ukpong was Lion teammate Minna Svaerd; Angelo State’s Sara Ramos; DBU’s Amanda Chacon, Jenna Thorman, and Rylee Cristan; Oklahoma Christian’s Payton Duesing; TAMUK’s Sophia Ramirez; UT Tyler’s Summer Grubbs; and West Texas A&M’s Laiten Greeson and Leah Belfield.

Joining Delancy on the men's all-academic team was teammate Dean Wallace; Cameron’s Jason Cousineau; DBU’s Noah Metzger and Jared Gilley; Lubbock Christian’s Kevin Washington; OC’s Jelte van Atten and Colton Meyers; TAMUC’s Gage Marshall and Axel Paolucci; and UTT’s Tristan Meadors.

Overall, 22 men and women were selected to the All-Academic teams, including three-time honorees Delancy, Metzger, Gilley, Grubbs and Svaerd, and repeat selections van Atten, Cristan, Thorman, and Belfield.
