UTPB's Sanchez leads six in academic accolades

UT Permian Basin senior Enrique Sanchez was named the Lone Star Conference Men’s Tennis Academic Player of the Year, leading a group of six student-athletes recognized for their performance on the court and in the classroom.

The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.

The native of Muriedas, Spain, was joined on the team by DBU’s Aaron Capone, Midwestern State’s Ben Westwick, St. Mary’s Nicolas Llosa and UT Tyler duo Gonzalo Fernandez Gil and Egor Shestakov. Westwick earned his second consecutive all-academic honor.

A senior computer sciences major at UTPB, Sanchez led the Falcons from the No. 1 singles position and was nationally ranked for much of the 2022 season. He picked up four singles wins and seven in doubles play and led UTPB to the No. 7 seed in the LSC tournament.
