Almost 130 athletes were recognized on the All-Lone Star Conference teams for their efforts at the 2022 LSC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The awards were announced Friday by league officials.
West Texas A&M swept the men’s and women’s titles with the Buffs claiming their second title and the Lady Buffs earning their fourth crown at the league’s outdoor meet May 5-6-7.
The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The second team includes athletes on the second-place relay teams and those scoring 8-13.9 points, while the third team recognizes members of third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points. Overall, 69 men and 60 women were honored.
On the men’s side, Angelo State had 18 earn All-LSC honors with three first-team performers, while Texas A&M-Commerce had 15, and WT 14.
ASU and WT led the women’s honorees with 13 each with three Rambelles and nine Lady Buffs on the top team, respectively. TAMUC had 10 recognized.
In addition to the announcement of All-LSC performers, the league recognized four student-athletes and two coaches with individual awards.
For the second straight year, WT’s Benjamin Azamati claimed the Cap Shelton Award as Outstanding Male Track Athlete, while Lubbock Christian’s Bryce Spence earned the Oscar Strahan Award as Outstanding Male Field Athlete. WT’s Matt Stewart was named Men’s Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
On the women’s side, Angelo State’s Maricia Spence captured the Wes Kittley Award as Outstanding Female Track Athlete, while the Rambelles Antonija R picked up the David Noble Award as Outstanding Female Field Athlete. The Lady Buffs Stewart was tabbed Coach of the Year for the second straight year.
The special awards were voted upon by the league coaches.
The qualifiers for the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be announced May 17 via NCAA.com press release. The DII championships are May 26-28 at the GVSU Track & Field Stadium in Allendale, Mich.
