NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships Results
West Texas A&M captured the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the second time in school history on Saturday in Allendale, Michigan.
The Lady Buffs prevailed with a program-best 77 points over runner-up Grand Valley State (64 points). Texas A&M-Commerce earned their first top 10 finish in eight place (26), while Angelo State placed 13th (18).
The Lady Buffs won four individual titles led by Zada Swoopes, who claimed gold in both the shot put and discus for the second consecutive year. She also finished fourth in the hammer throw for 25 points. Eleonora Curtabbi and Leah Belfield won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 200-meter dash, respectively.
The Lions had a pair of individual national champions as Minna Sveard prevailed in the 400-meter hurdles, and Candesha Scott finished first in the javelin.
On the men’s side, WT finished as national runner-up with 61 points, while TAMUC was fourth (48), and ASU 15th (19).
The Buffs Sifiso Miya, Jeremiah Lauzon, Desmond Aryee, and Benjamin Azamati took home the 4x100-meter relay national championship.
The Lions had three individual titles as Ushan Perera defended his high jump crown, J.T. Smith earned gold in the 100-meter dash, and Moaz Ibrahim won the discus with a meet-record performance.
ASU’s Elvis Kryukov triumphed in the decathlon with wins in the discus and shot put events.
Pittsburgh State won the men’s title for the first time with 70 points.
