Softball: Golden Glove Awards announced

The Lone Star Conference softball defensive stars were highlighted Wednesday as the league’s golden glove awards were announced.

For the 10th time, the golden glove awards were determined by a vote of LSC head coaches based on defensive performance alone for all nine positions.

Texas A&M-Kingsville had the most defensive standouts with three, while Angelo State and St. Mary's each had two.  Lubbock Christian, Texas A&M-Commerce, UT Tyler, and West Texas A&M added one honoree.

The recipients included ASU catcher Keilei Garcia and TAMUC pitcher Emily Otto.  The infield was composed of TAMUK’s Matisen Onofrei at first base, the Rambelles Ashlyn Lerma at second base, LCU’s Brooke Makemson at shortstop, and StMU’s Tiffany Licon at third base.

The outfield was composed of the Rattlers Victoria Aldridge, Javelinas Jory Cervantes and Loren Kelly, UTT’s Shannon Klaus, and WT’s Brittni Rufus.

Kelly is a three-time honoree, while Lerma was recognized for the second straight year.
