Softball postseason awards released

Angelo State’s Paxton Scheurer claimed Player of the Year honors to highlight the Lone Star Conference softball postseason awards announced Wednesday by league officials at the championship reception.
 
      LSC champion UT Tyler had seven players receive All-LSC distinction including three first team and four third-team honorees.  The Patriots, who won the league title for the second straight year with a 26-4 record, were represented on the All-LSC first team by Tatum Goff, Ashley Perez, and Courtney Plocheck.
 
      UTT earned a pair of special awards as well.  Goff was tabbed Newcomer of the Year, while Mike Reed picked up Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive year.
 
      Lubbock Christian’s Taylor Franco was named Pitcher of the Year, while Cameron’s Kaiden Boren picked up Freshman of the Year acclaim.
 
      LCU had a league-high nine players named to the all-conference team with five first-team honorees.  Texas A&M-Kingsville had four on the first team and four on the second for eight overall.
 
      Oklahoma Christian had seven recognized with two on the top team.  Angelo State and West Texas A&M both had five players with three on the first team.  St. Mary’s and Texas A&M-Commerce each had four honorees with one Rattler and all four Lions on the top squad.
 
      The Aggies Boren headlined the All-Freshman Team, which consisted of 10 players.  TAMUK had two recipients, while eight teams had one each.
 
      Overall, 55 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, with a player from 12 LSC teams.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches, who determined a 25-player first team with 15 recognized by position and 10 at-large selections, along with second and third teams, consisting of 15 players, respectively, regardless of positions.
