The 2023 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas on February 18-19.
LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Joseph Manu, West Texas A&M, SR, MBA, Accra, Ghana, KNUST University
Manu continued to impress on the track this past weekend at the Texas Tech Open & Multis in Lubbock. The Accra, Ghana product ran the fifth fastest time so far this season in the 60m dash with a converted 6.71 to finish fourth overall behind three Power-5 athletes. The 6.71 is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Indoor National Meet coming up in March.
MEN’S FIELD
Hamdi Ali, West Texas A&M, SO, General Business, Doha, Qatar
Ali set a new standard in the men’s high jump this past weekend in Lubbock. The Doha, Qatar native shattered the school record with a 7-2.5 (2.20m) for the second-best mark so far this season in Division II to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Meet. The mark is also tied for the 26th best jump in Division II Indoor history.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Shiean Walters, Angelo State, JR, Exercise Science, Coleman, Texas, Coleman HS
Walters, a junior from Coleman, Texas, led the 11th-ranked Rambelles on the track over the weekend at the New Mexico Team Open. She now leads the Lone Star Conference in the 400-meter run after taking fourth overall in the event with a time of 55.17 which ranks fifth in all of Division II. She also took fourth overall in the 200-meter dash at 24.92 which is the third-fastest time in the LSC.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Taylor Nelloms, West Texas A&M, JR, Kinesiology, Humble, Texas, Atascosita HS
Nelloms continued her impressive career in Maroon & White this past weekend as the junior from Humble, Texas finished sixth in the triple jump at the Texas Tech Open & Multis behind five Power-5 athletes. Her mark of 61-4.75 (12.94m) is the top jump so far this season in Division II. The jump also ties the seventh best mark in Lady Buff history. Nelloms also picked up a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 19-4.25 (5.90m) for the top jump in DII this season.
