LSC Men's Basketball Weekly Release - Week 9

Angelo State, Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Kingsville, and UT Tyler each went 2-0 in Lone Star Conference games last week.
 
      LSC games continue with each team playing a double round-robin schedule within their eight-team division. Additionally, teams will play eight crossover contests against teams from the opposite division for a total of 22 conference games.
 
      The LSC Men’s Basketball Championship will feature an eight-team field in 2023 with seeding based on the 22 conference games. The divisional winners will receive the top two seeds in the tournament. The championships are set to take place March 2-3-4-5, 2023, at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
 
      LSC men’s basketball teams are 137-100 overall and 17-17 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, the other league in the South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Kevon Godwin, Angelo State, JR, Interdisciplinary Studies, Guard, Blountstown, Fla., Blountstown HS
Godwin led a Rams offense that shot 56.4 percent from the field in a pair of wins over West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian. Against the Buffs, Godwin scored 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. Against the Chaps, he added 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting and made three of his six attempts from three-point range along with five of his six attempts from the free-throw line and grabbed five rebounds.
 
DEFENSIVE
Steve Webb, Angelo State, SR, MBA, Guard, St. Louis, Mo., Westminster Christian Academy
Webb played a vital role for the Rams defensively as they claimed wins over West Texas A&M and Lubbock Christian. Against the Buffs, Webb recorded two steals as the Rams held the Buffs to 40 percent shooting from the field, their lowest mark in conference action this season, for the Rams' first win over the Buffs in San Angelo since 2016. Against the Chaps, Webb added three steals, and the Chaps shot a season-low 38.7 percent from the field. Webb is second in the LSC on the season with 1.9 steals per contest.
