LSC Volleyball Weekly Release - Week 5

 
October is a hectic month for Lone Star Conference volleyball teams and it opens with several midweek matches leading to a full weekend slate (Oct. 6-7). Teams catch a breath with a smattering of non-conference matches on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 9-10).
 
Four teams start October unbeaten in league play and two of those – UAFS (4-0) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (2-0) – square-off Friday. Both Angelo State and Dallas Baptist also take 4-0 LSC records into the week. Last weekend saw ASU knock Texas Woman's from the LSC unbeatens list in a four-set victory while DBU and UAFS each posted a pair of road wins.

The October 2 AVCA/Taraflex Division II Poll lists West Texas A&M at #5, unchanged from the previous week. Both Angelo State and Dallas Baptist are among teams receiving votes.  LINK  Next ranking October 9.
 
LSC teams carry a combined 71-47 (.602) record against NCAA Division II opponents through matches of October 2 and includes a 17-8 mark versus South Central Region rival Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  ...  The LSC is 9-0 vs. South and 4-0 vs. Southeast Region conferences, and 8-2 against Midwest Region opponents.

OFFENSIVE
Hannah Kinnison, Angelo State, Outside Hitter, Sr., Food Animal Science and Marketing, Sligo, Colo. (Prairie HS)
Hannah Kinnison averaged 4.71 kills per set and hit .391 as Angelo State picked up wins over Texas Woman's and Midwestern State to remain unbeaten in conference play. Against TWU, the outside hitter tallied 14 kills on a .237 attack percentage and followed that with 19 kills behind a .581 attack percentage in a sweep of Midwestern State. Kinnison added 8 blocks and totaled 37.5 points over the two matches.
 
DEFENSIVE
Addison Evans, UT Tyler, Libero, Jr., Kinesiology, New Braunfels, Texas (Canyon HS)
Libero Addison Evans collected 48 digs in UT Tyler road wins over Eastern New Mexico and Lubbock Christian, averaging 6.86 digs per set, The junior totaled 16 digs in the weekend-opening three-set sweep of ENMU and came back for a career-high 32 digs against LCU, her first 30-plus dig total for the season. Evans' play helped UT Tyler limit the opposition to a .153 hitting percentage.
 
SETTER
Ainsley Malis, West Texas A&M, Setter, Jr., Sports & Exercise Science, Tucson, Ariz. (Tanque Verde HS)
Working out of a 6-2 offense, junior Ainsley Malis averaged 6.17 assists in the West Texas A&M straight set wins vs. St. Edward's and St. Mary's as the Lady Buffs offense hit a combined .328. Malis contributed 9 digs and a pair of aces to her weekend totals.
