2023 LSC football all-conference awards revealed

UT Permian Basin quarterback Kenny Hrncir was named Offensive Player of the Year and Central Washington safety Tanner Volk was named Defensive Player of the Year to highlight the Lone Star Conference’s postseason football awards, it was announced on Thursday (Nov. 16).
 
Hrncir, a graduate student who is from Needville, Texas, won the “J.W. Rollins Award” by throwing for a league-high 30 touchdowns and running for eight more scores. He led the conference with 303.18 yards per game – nearly 100 more than anyone else. He threw for 2,725 yards and had nine games with multiple TD passes.
 
Volk, a junior from Portland, Ore., won the J.V. Sikes Award after leading all levels of NCAA with 11 interceptions. Volk, who had four games with two picks and retuned one INT for a TD, also made 100 tackles – a top 3 rank in the LSC. Volk also led the league with 15 passes defended.
 
More individual awards on the offensive side of the ball included Central Washington’s Tyler Flanagan (12 TDs) being named Offensive Back of the Year, UT Permian Basin’s Jeremiah Cooley (eight TDs) winning Receiver of the Year, Angelo State’s Noah Plsek claiming Offensive Lineman of the Year and Eastern New Mexico receiver Andre Jones (seven TDs) being named Offensive Freshman of the Year.
 
On defense, UT Permian Basin’s Dominique Varela (4.5 sacks) won Defensive Lineman of the Year, while teammate Hayden Kelly (107 tackles) took Linebacker of the Year honors. Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Amos Coleman (three INTs) was named Defensive Back of the Year. The Defensive Freshman of the Year award was shared by Texas A&M-Kingsville lineman Eti-Iny Basssey and Western New Mexico inside linebacker Cole Lalama.
 
West Texas A&M senior inside linebacker Jimmy Harrison (100 tackles) was named Newcomer of the Year.
 
Hrncir, Volk, Flanagan, Cooley, Plsek, Jones, Kelly and Coleman were all First Team All-Conference selections. Coleman was also a Second Team pick at return specialist.
 
UT Permian Basin first-year head coach Kris McCullough was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Falcons to the LSC championship with an 8-0 record in league play.
 
Overall, 125 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, which also included honorable mention selections. The awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches.
