DBU’S Ethan Unger leads 11 in Men’s Soccer Academic honors

DBU senior midfielder Ethan Unger picked up Lone Star Conference Men’s Soccer Academic Player of the Year honors to headline the men’s soccer academic awards, it was announced by league officials Thursday (Nov. 8).

Unger, who is from Frisco, Texas and majoring in Finance, boasts a 4.0 grade-point average. He was a 2022 Academic All-American and ranks second all-time in assists at DBU. He has stared all 18 matches for the Patriots this season and has totaled seven points – one game-winning goal – to help them qualify for the LSC Championship.

Unger was joined on the academic team by teammate Peyton Voelker, Lubbock Christian’s Jelle Born and Pablo Galietero Diez, Midwestern State’s Adam Braman and Jack Larkin, Oklahoma Christian’s Zach Snow, St. Mary’s Cian Foley and Dani Gimena, West Texas A&M’s Asaf Kristal and UT Tyler’s Lukas Paulun.

Unger and Voelker were also All-Academic Team selections last year.

The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.
