LSC Men’s Soccer postseason honors announced

Midwestern State junior forward Mere Escobar claimed Lone Star Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year honors to highlight the league’s postseason awards, it was announced Thursday by LSC officials at the championship banquet.
 
Escobar, who is from Austin, Texas, also took home the LSC Forward of the Year Award. He led the conference with 16 goals, six game-winning goals and 43 points – 4 more than any other player in the league. Those totals are all Top 5 marks in all of NCAA Division III. Escobar also helped his team claim the LSC regular season title with an unbeaten record.
 
Midwestern State also had the Defensive Player of the Year (senior Juan Galindo), Goalkeeper of the Year (sophomore Adam Braman), Midfielder of the Year (graduate student Maycol Reyes), Newcomer of the Year (also Reyes) and Coach of the Year (Michael Meachum).
 
Escobar, Galindo, Braman and Reyes were also All-Conference First Team selections.
 
Oklahoma Christian defender Ellis Jones was named Freshman of the Year. He was also an All-Conference First Team pick.
 
Jones headlined 13 players on the All-Freshman Team.
 
Overall, 47 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, which also included a Second Team and Third Team. The awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches.
