DBU junior forward Taylor Tufts claimed Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year honors to highlight the league’s postseason awards, it was announced Thursday by LSC officials at the championship banquet.
Tufts, who is from Southlake, Texas, also took home the LSC Forward of the Year and Newcomer of the Year awards. She dished out 16 assists, which is the most in NCAA Division II and ranks in the Top 5 across all NCAA levels. Tufts also had six goals – two were game-winners – to give her 28 points, which also led the LSC. She also helped her team claim the LSC regular season title with an unbeaten record.
DBU also had the Defensive Player of the Year (junior Rachel Allen), Goalkeeper of the Year (freshman Carmen Lopez), Freshman of the Year (also Lopez), Midfielder of the Year (Michelle Gonzalez) and Coaching Staff of the Year (head coach Marcus Wood and assistants Cory Marr, Anna Jobe, Stef Van Meerveld, Madelyn Dowell, Dave Trevino and Courtney Pinson).
Tufts, Allen, Lopez and Gonzalez were also All-Conference First Team selections.
Lopez headlined 13 players on the All-Freshman Team.
Overall, 49 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, which also included a Second Team and Third Team. The awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches.
