LSC Indoor Track and Field Weekly Release - Week 6

The 2023 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas on February 18-19.
 
      The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday and continues at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with nine men’s teams and 10 women’s squads competing.

      The league has two men’s and two women’s team in the top 25 of the latest national rating indexes conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  The men’s rankings include No. 3 West Texas A&M and No. 21 Texas A&M-Kingsville, while the women are represented by No. 4 WT and No. 14 Angelo State.
 
      WT is the reigning men’s and women’s champions.  The Lady Buffs have won the last nine titles on the women’s side.
 
      The NCAA Division II Championships are March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Dylan Burrows, Oklahoma Christian, JR, Undeclared, Melbourne, Australia, Peninsula Grammar School
Burrows broke the school record in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:49.26 at the 8th Annual Indoor Gorilla Classic hosted by Pittsburg State. That time is currently ranked 5th in DII.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Thomas Nieto, Texas A&M-Kingsville, SO, Undecided, Columbia
Nieto saw his stellar campaign continue with a silver-medal performance in the pole vault. He surpassed 17-05 (5.31m) to tie Alexander Slinkman of Rice for the top spot at the Howie Ryan Invitational inside the Yeoman Fieldhouse.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Shadae Findley, Angelo State, JR, Management, Manchester, Jamaica, St. Elizabeth Technical
Findley, a Management major from Manchester, Jamaica, recorded the top LSC performance in the women's 400-meter run at the Jarvis Scott Open, crossing the finish line at 54.98. She also helped the Belles 4x400-meter relay team to the top conference time at 3:41.65 which is the second-fastest result in Division II.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Madison Ramos, Texas A&M-Kingsville, FR, Animal Science, Laguna Vista, Texas, Port Isabel HS
Ramos collected an eighth-place finish in the high jump at the Howie Ryan Invitational after clearing a bar set at 5-03 (1.60m) to tie with a trio of NCAA Division I competitors at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.
