Angelo State’s Lloyd Leads Five in Women's Basketball Academic Honors

Angelo State junior guard Sawyer Lloyd was named the Lone Star Conference Women’s Basketball Academic Player of the Year, leading a group of five standouts who earned All-Academic Team honors, the league announced on Wednesday (Feb. 28).

Lloyd, who is from Wall, Texas and majoring in Exercise Science, boasts a 3.91 grade-point average. She averaged 15.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.9 steals per game in the regular season – all top 10 marks in the LSC – to lead the Rambelles to a share of the East Division title. She won six LSC Player of the Week awards and surpassed the 1,000 career points milestone early in the season.

Lloyd was joined on the team by Lubbock Christian’s Grace Foster, Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Brianna Pena, Texas Woman’s Ashley Ingram and West Texas A&M’s Lauren Taylor.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career. The LSC All-Academic team is selected by a vote of the league’s sports information directors.
