LSC Indoor Track and Field Awards Announced

West Texas A&M’s Isaac Botsio and Leah Belfield and Angelo State’s Elvis Kryukov and Maricia Spence claimed Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field honors to headline the league’s postseason awards, which were announced Friday (March 10) by the league office.
 
The LSC honored more than 100 athletes for their efforts at the 2023 LSC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, held Feb. 18-19 at Texas Tech University’s Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
 
Botsio was named LSC Indoor Outstanding Male Track Athlete, while Belfield was tabbed LSC Indoor Outstanding Female Track Athlete. Botsio won the 60-meter dash (6.61) and 200-meter dash (20.88), while Belfield also claimed the top spot in the 60-meter dash (7.38) and 200-meter dash (23.76).
 
Kryukov earned the title of LSC Indoor Outstanding Male Field Athlete, while Spence was dubbed LSC Indoor Outstanding Female Field Athlete. Kryukov was the champion in heptathlon (5450), runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles (8.01), seventh place in high jump (1.90m) and seventh place in shot put (14.90m). Spence was champion in the pentathlon (3862) and long jump (6.04m), runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles (8.71) and fourth place in shot put (12.94m).
 
West Texas A&M’s Matt Stewart swept the Coach of the Year honors for both the men and women after guiding the Buffs to their third straight conference title and the Lady Buffs to their 10th consecutive LSC crown.
 
The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams, and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The second team includes athletes on the second-place relay teams and those scoring 8-13.9 points, while the third team recognizes members of third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points. The special awards were voted upon by the league coaches.
 
The 2023 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships are March 10-11 in Virginia Beach, Va.
