UT Tyler junior Egor Shestakov picked up Lone Star Conference Men’s Tennis Academic Player of the Year honors to headline the men’s tennis academic awards, it was announced by league officials Wednesday (April 19).
Shestakov, who is from Kaliningrad, Russia and majoring in Economics, boasts a 3.96 grade-point average. He was also member of the 2022 LSC All-Academic Team. On the court, Shestakov is 13-3 in No. 3 singles and ranked 10th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles rankings. He was the 2021 LSC Freshman of the Year and a first-team singles pick that year.
Shestakov was joined on the academic team by teammates Joaquin Bianchi and Gonzalo Fernandez Gil, DBU’s Aaron Capone and St. Mary’s Oskar Irdoja and Alvaro Soler.
Gil and Capone were also All-Academic Team selections last year.
The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.
