Lone Star Conference Academic Runners of the Year
Lexi Maul of West Texas A&M and
Adam Whitehead of DBU lead the 2024 LSC Cross Country All-Academic Team list announced by the conference on Monday (Nov. 11).
A junior from Pampa, Texas, Maul is majoring in sports and exercise science and carries a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average. She has earned LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll in each of her four semesters. During the 2024 cross country season, Maul placed 20th at the LSC Championships, recording her season-best 6k time (22:31.38) and helping the Lady Buffs claim a second straight LSC women’s cross country title. Over her career, Maul has competed at both the NCAA South Central Regional and Division II national championship meets.
Whitehead, a two-time LSC All-Academic Team honoree (2023, ’24), is a mathematics major and carries a 3.83 grade-point average. A senior from Gilbert, Ariz., Whitehead has earned LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll citations eight times. Whitehead recorded his 2024 season-best 8k time at the LSC Championships (24:39.8), placing 11th to earn his third all-conference finish and help the Patriots to a fifth-place team showing. Whitehead has competed in four NCAA South Central Regional meets, including the 2024 race.
Maul is joined on the LSC All-Academic women’s team by DBU runners senior Emme O’Donnell, a three-time All-Academic honoree, and sophomore Lesli Salas; Kinley Cornelson, a Lubbock Christian sophomore; and junior Finley Hunting from UT Tyler.
In addition to Whitehead, the LSC All-Academic men's team includes sophomore Alfons Raawall of Lubbock Christian; St. Edward’s senior Omar Guzman and sophomore Hogan Heikkinen; and sophomore Michael Castorena of Western New Mexico.
The All-Academic Team, selected by vote of the LSC sports information directors, recognize student-athlete accomplishments in the classroom and on the cross country course. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team ballot, individuals must maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
Both Maul and Whitehead will be candidates for the LSC Fred Jacoby Academic Athlete of the Year awards announced in June.
