The first weekend of Lone Star Conference men’s basketball league games are in the books. All but four of the LSC’s 16 teams have played a conference opponent.
No. 2 West Texas A&M started league play with an overtime road win against Eastern New Mexico to keep its perfect record intact at 6-0. Midwestern State (5-1 overall) is 2-0 in conference play with victories against St. Mary’s and St. Edward’s. Texas A&M International, UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico started off LSC play 1-0. Cameron, No. 8 DBU, Oklahoma Christian and UT Tyler will play their first LSC game during the first week in December.
ENMU is scoring a league-high 94 points per game and TAMIU is allowing a league-low 60.1 points per game.
MSU’s Mason Gibson (33), WT’s Ahamed Mohammed (32) and DBU’s Ricky Lujan (30) have 30-point games.
Mohammed is averaging a league-high 22.2 points per game, followed by OC’s Keyondre Young (19.3). Gibson and UTPB’s Alex Matthews are tied for third with 18.8 points per game. More league stat leaders include: CU’s Jaxon Ingram (11.2 rebounds pg and 1.8 blocks pg), DBU’s Xavion Brown (5.3 assists pg) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (four steals pg).
The LSC Basketball Championship will March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

OFFENSIVE
Ahamed Mohammed, West Texas A&M, G, Jr., Sports and Exercise Science, Glendale, Ariz.
West Texas A&M junior guard Ahamed Mohammed averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and two steals to lead the No. 2-ranked Buffs to wins over Adams State and Eastern New Mexico. Mohammed, who wins the league’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season, had a 20-point, 10-board double double against Adams State. Both numbers were game highs. Mohammed had a 25-point performance – another game-high – against ENMU. He made 13 of 15 free throws to help keep the Buffs unbeaten on the season.
DEFENSIVE
Maison Adeleye, UT Permian Basin, G, Sr., Management, Arlington, Texas
UT Permian Basin senior guard Maison Adeleye pulled down 14 defensive rebounds, had six steals and blocked four shots to help the Falcons to a 2-0 week, including a conference-opening win over Angel State. Adeleye also averaged 11 points, 8.5 rebounds overall and 6.5 assists. In a home-opening victory over Southwest (N.M.), he was just one assist shy of a triple double (12 points, 12 boards, nine assists). In the 65-62 win over ASU, Adeleye blocked two shots.
