It is already Week 5 of the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball season. This week will feature all conference games – 16 of them, to be exact.
 
Midwestern State is 2-0 in league play. Texas A&M International, UT Permian Basin, No. 2 West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico have all started 1-0. Cameron, No. 6 DBU, Oklahoma Christian and UT Tyler get their first chance at LSC play this week.
 
WT is scoring a league-high 93.8 points per game and TAMIU is allowing a league-low 61.8 points per game.
 
MSU’s Mason Gibson (33), WT’s Ahamed Mohammed (32) and DBU’s Ricky Lujan (30) have 30-point games. UT Permian Basin’s Dario Domingos has the most rebounds in a game (16), while MSU’s Pierre Sanders and DBU’s Ricky Lujan each have 10-assist performances. More game-highs include: TAMIU’s Duncan Alevok (eight blocks) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (seven steals twice). Three players have made seven 3-pointers in a game.
 
Mohammed is averaging a league-high 22.2 points per game, followed by OC’s Keyondre Young (20). Gibson and UTPB’s Alex Matthews are tied for third with 18.8 points per game. More league stat leaders include: CU’s Jaxon Ingram (11 rebounds pg and 1.5 blocks pg), ENMU’s Jose Murillo (1.5 blocks pg), CU’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.3 assists pg) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (4.5 steals pg). Sanders has hit all 16 of his free-throw attempts.
 
The LSC Basketball Championship will March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

OFFENSIVE
Cameron Kahn, DBU, G, Sr., Sports Management, Sulphur Springs, Texas
DBU senior guard Cameron Kahn averaged 19 points, six rebounds and 2.5 steals to lead the No. 6-ranked Patriots a 2-0 week against Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene. The LSC Preseason Player of the Year hit the game-winning basket with two seconds left against Oklahoma Baptist. He finished with 22 points. Kahn then had a team-high seven boards to help DBU hand Southern Nazarene its first loss of the season. He shot 57.1 percent from the field and added two assists and one block to help the Patriots extend their winning streak to seven games.
 
DEFENSIVE
Ty Caswell, Lubbock Christian, F, Sr., Accounting, Wichita Falls, Texas
Lubbock Christian senior forward Ty Caswell had 12 defensive rebounds, three steals and two blocks to fuel a 2-0 week. Caswell also averaged 17.5 points on 57.1 percent shooting, seven boards and three assists while playing just 26 minutes per game. He hit 10 shots from 3-point range. Caswell led the Chaps in rebounding against both Arlington Baptist and UT Dallas and helped the Chaps hold them to an average of 65 points per game. His play also helped LCU to its first back-to-back wins of the season.
