Only one more Lone Star Conference men’s basketball game remains on the 2024 calendar as Sul Ross State hosts Northern New Mexico on Monday, Dec. 30. The 2025 calendar gets going on Friday, Jan. 3 with eight leagues games and then eight more on Sunday, Jan. 5.
Three teams are atop the
conference standings at 4-1: DBU (12-2 overall), West Texas A&M (9-2) and UT Permian Basin (8-3). St. Mary’s (6-4 overall), Midwestern State (8-2) and Lubbock Christian (8-4) are 3-1 in league play.
DBU and Midwestern State have the top winning streaks at three games. Oklahoma Christian, UT Tyler and Eastern New Mexico have won back-to-back games.
Eastern New Mexico is averaging a league-high 96 points per game – 11.3 more than anyone else – and UT Tyler is allowing a league-low 62.7 points per game.
MSU’s Mason Gibson has two 30-point games (33 and 31), while OC’s Keyondre Young (32), WT’s Ahamed Mohammed (32) and DBU’s Ricky Lujan (30) have also hit that mark. UTPB’s Dario Domingos has the most rebounds in a game (16) and Texas A&M International’s Duncan Alevok has an eight-block performance. ENMU’s Austin Abrams has game-highs in assists (11) and steals (seven). Young also made a league-best six 3-pointers in a game.
Young is averaging a league-high 20 points per game, followed by Gibson (18.8) and Mohammed (18.1). More league stat leaders include: CU’s Jaxon Ingram (10.7 rebounds pg), Cameron’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.6 assists pg) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (3.9 steals pg). Ingram and ENMU’s Jose Murillo are averaging 1.5 blocks per game. Murillo is shooting 75.3 percent (58-for-77) from the field and Young is shooting 55.6 (35-for-63) from 3-point range. Western New Mexico’s Carson Kelly is shooting 87.2 percent (34-for-39) from the free-throw line and MSU’s Pierre Sanders has hit all 20 of his attempts from the charity stripe.
The LSC Basketball Championship will March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The men’s quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

OFFENSIVE
Keyondre Young, Oklahoma Christian, G, Sr., Interdisciplinary Studies, Del City, Okla.
Oklahoma Christian senior guard Keyondre Young scored a career-high 32 points to fuel a 90-82 win over Cameron. Young, who leads the conference in scoring at 20 points per game, went 6-for-7 from the 3-point line. He added two rebounds and hit all four of his free-throw attempts. Young’s play has helped the Eagles to back-to-back conference victories.
DEFENSIVE
Xavion Brown, DBU, G, Jr., Kinesiology, Sacramento, Calif.
DBU junior guard Xavion Brown averaged seven rebounds and three steals to anchor a unit that allowed just 36.3 percent shooting over a 2-0 road week in conference play. Brown also blocked a shot and chipped in nine points and 4.5 assists per game against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State. Of his boards, 10 were on the defensive end. He had a four-steal game against WNMU and pulled down seven rebounds in just 14 minutes against SRSU. Brown’s play has helped the nationally-ranked Patriots to three straight victories.
