No. 2-ranked West Texas A&M has started the season 8-0, including a 3-0 mark in Lone Star Conference men’s basketball play. Lubbock Christian has won four straight games, including topping No. 5 DBU on the road, 78-67, to snap the Patriots’ eight-game winning streak. Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico and St. Mary’s have all won three in a row.


This week’s schedule features just seven games with six being conference matchups.
 
DBU forward Cameron Kahn became the LSC’s first national player of the week of the season, earning the honor from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and Division II Conference Information Directors Association (D2CIDA). The 6-foot-6 graduate student and LSC Preseason Player of the Year hit a game-winning basket and averaged 19 points, six rebounds and 2.5 assists over a pair of Patriot victories.
 
WT is scoring a league-high 92.1 points per game and UT Tyler is allowing a league-low 61.6 points per game.
 
MSU’s Mason Gibson has two 30-point games (33 and 31), and WT’s Ahamed Mohammed (32) and DBU’s Ricky Lujan (30) have also hit that mark. UT Permian Basin’s Dario Domingos has the most rebounds in a game (16), while MSU’s Pierre Sanders and DBU’s Ricky Lujan each have 10-assist performances. More game-highs include: TAMIU’s Duncan Alevok (eight blocks) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (seven steals twice). Three players have made seven 3-pointers in a game.
 
Mohammed is averaging a league-high 20.3 points per game, followed by Gibson (19.5) and OC’s Keyondre Young (18). More league stat leaders include: CU’s Jaxon Ingram (10.3 rebounds pg), Sul Ross State’s Myles Amason (1.4 blocks pg), CU’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.8 assists pg) and ENMU’s Cooper Jackson (4.5 steals pg). WT's Noah Pagotto is shooting 56.8 percent (46-for-81) from the field and UT Tyler’s Nikolas Gustavson is shooting 57.1 (20-for-35) from 3-point range. Sanders has hit all 20 of his free-throw attempts.
 
The LSC Basketball Championship will March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

OFFENSIVE
Ethan Duncan, Lubbock Christian, G, So., Communications Studies, Lubbock, Texas
Lubbock Christian sophomore guard Ethan Duncan averaged 22 points, four rebounds and two assists over a pair of conference victories, including an upset on the road of No. 5-ranked DBU. Duncan also had two steals, made seven of 13 shots from 3-point range and hit 9 of 10 free-throw attempts. In the 78-67 victory against DBU that snapped the Patriots’ eight-game winning streak, Duncan had a game-high 21 points and played all but three minutes. Against UT Tyler, he had 15 second-half points. Duncan’s play has helped the Chaps win four games in a row.
 
DEFENSIVE
Damani Claxton, St. Mary’s, G, Jr., Exercise and Sport Science, Bronx, N.Y.
St. Mary’s junior guard Damani Claxton averaged 4.5 steals to fuel a pair of conference wins and extend the Rattlers’ winning streak to three games. Claxton also had a blocked shot, two defensive rebounds and averaged 15 points and 4.5 assists. Claxton and company allowed just 60.5 points per game. Against Sul Ross State, Claxton had game-highs of six steals, 19 points and five assists in just 18 minutes of action.
