LSC Indoor Track and Field Weekly Release - Week 7

The 2024 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships are set for Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24) at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on the men’s and women’s side.

Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s indoor track and field athletes have recorded 147 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (66 men and 81 women). To see the conference’s men’s and women’s performance lists, click here.

Thursday (Feb. 22) is a special date as 293 active member institutions, 23 conferences and over 126,000 student-athletes within Division II celebrate DII Day. The day serves as an opportunity for all associated with NCAA Division II to celebrate the impact of athletics and student-athletes on their campuses and communities.

The 2024 NCAA Division II National Championships will be held March 8-9 at Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
(Feb. 17-18 Meets)

MEN’S TRACK
Jeremiah Lauzon, West Texas A&M, Sr., Digital Media, Red Deer, Alberta (Lindsay Thurber)
Lauzon won the 200-meter with a 21.33 at the Steve Miller Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. The NCAA Division II mark is top 20 in the country and the fastest for West Texas A&M this season.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Thomas Nieto, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Jr., Industrial Management & Applied Engineering Technology, Ibague, Columbia
Nieto brought home his third straight gold medal in the pole vault, posting a 17-7.81 (5.38m) at the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln, Neb. The Texas A&M-Kingsville junior, who takes the league’s top field award for the second time this season, now owns the third best mark in NCAA Division II.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Leah Belfield, West Texas A&M, Sr., Sports and Exercise Science, Te Awamutu, New Zeland (Te Awamutu)
Belfield took first place in the 60-meter and 200-meter at the Steve Miller Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. with a 7.54 and 24.14, respectively. The West Texas A&M senior’s NCAA Division II provisional 60 time ranks 13th in the nation.

WOMEN’S FIELD
Afaf Benhadja, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Fr., Mechanical Engineering, Algiers, Algeria
In her debut with Texas A&M-Kingsville, Benhadja had silver finishes in the high jump and long jump at the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln, Neb. with 1.70m and 5.37m marks, respectively. Her NCAA Division II provisional high jump mark ranks in the top 25 in the country.
