The 2024 Lone Star Conference baseball season is here. All but one of the 13 league teams celebrated their Opening Day this past week. UAFS will play its first game on Feb 9.
Out of the LSC teams that played four-game series, only Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M remain unbeaten. Eastern New Mexico split with top-ranked and defending
NCAA Division II national champion Angelo State at Greyhound Baseball Field in Portales, N.M.
ASU entered the season ranked the No. 1 team in the country by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and D2 Baseball Insider preseason polls. The Rams are also the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll.
ASU junior outfielder Jacob Guerrero and senior right-hander Braxton Pearson were named LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. To read the release, click

The LSC Baseball Championship will be compiled of the top eight teams based on conference standings. The top four seeds will host opening-round, best-of-three series on May 3-5 at their home parks. The winners will advance to a double elimination tournament on May 9-11 hosted by the top remaining seed.

HITTER
Ryan Ball, Lubbock Christian, 3B, Sr., Undecided, Santa Margarita, Calif. (Trabuco HS)
Ball hit for the cycle and batted .538 with two home runs and 10 RBIs – in just three games – to lead Lubbock Christian to a season-opening series sweep on the road against Cameron. Ball also walked twice and scored five runs to help the Chapparals to their first 4-0 start since 2017. His cycle came in the second game of the series. Ball hit a two-out triple in his last at-bat to secure the feat. He went 4-for-5 with seven RBIs in the 19-12 win.
PITCHER
Ben Smedshammer, RHP, St. Edward’s, RHP, Jr., Undecided , Lorena, Texas (LHS)
Smedshammer went 2-0 out of the bullpen with no runs allowed and six strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings of work. The St. Edward’s right-hander, who walked only one batter, was first out of the bullpen in both games against Texas A&M-Kingsville. His second win came in the finale to win the series for the Hilltoppers. His first victory came in a 3-1 Game 2 where he allowed just one hit and fanned four over 2 2/3 innings.
