LSC Indoor Track and Field Weekly Release - Week 5

Lone Star Conference men’s and women’s indoor track and field athletes have recorded 119 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (55 men and 64 women). To see the conference’s men’s and women’s performance lists, click here.

The 2024 LSC Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held Feb. 23-24 at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. West Texas A&M is the defending conference champion on the men’s and women’s side.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
(Feb. 2-3 Meets)

MEN’S TRACK
Angel Luera, DBU, Gr., Kinesiology, Schertz, Texas (Clemens HS)
Luera set the DBU indoor and Washburn Open record with a 1:49.82 in the 800 meters. Luera’s NCAA Division II provisional mark in Topeka, Kan., is tops in the LSC this season and sixth in the country. Luera also helped the Patriots to a third-place finish in the distance medley relay with a 10:11.31 – also tops in the conference this year.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Thomas Nieto, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Jr., Industrial Management & Applied Engineering Technology, Ibague, Columbia
Nieto took gold in the pole vault with a 5.35m (17’6.5”) at the FasTrak Collegiate Invitational in Houston, Texas. Neito’s NCAA Division II provisional mark is tops in the league this season and second overall in the country.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Jacent Nyamahunge, Angelo State, Gr., Coaching/Sport/Recreational Fitness Administration, Hoima, Uganda, Old Kampala
Nyamahunge posted the fastest 200 meter time in the conference this season with a 24.11 at the University of New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. Her NCAA Division II provisional marks also ranks sixth in the nation. Nyamahunge also posted another provisional mark at the meet, running the 60 meters in 7.43.

WOMEN’S FIELD
Juliane Frueh, UT Tyler, Fr., Economics, Munich, Germany (Stadtische Robert-Bosch-Fachoberschule)
Frueh won the high jump and 800 meters on her way to a top five finish in the pentathlon at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kansas. Her high jump mark of 1.73m was a school record, best in the conference this season and good for eighth in all of NCAA Division II. She also had a provisional mark in the pentathlon with 3,611 points. In addition, Frueh finished fifth in the shotput, seventh in the long jump and 10th in the 60-meter hurdles.
