The Lone Star Conference baseball season is six weeks in.
No. 5-ranked West Texas A&M is on top of the standings at 15-5, while the hottest two teams in the league are Lubbock Christian (17-7) and No. 20 Angelo State (16-8), who have won nine and seven straight games, respectively.
LCU has swept two straight series against Oklahoma Christian and St. Mary’s. ASU is fresh off a sweep of OC.
LCU leads the league in hitting (.346), while ASU has the top pitching (4.51 ERA). ASU also owns the league’s top fielding percentage (.975).
ASU’s Tripp Clark is leading the league with a .472 batting average (as well as 39 RBIs), followed by WT’s Ryan Camacho (.456) and LCU’s Jarred Gibson (.431). Cameron teammates Lance Barnett and Wyatt Grant lead the conference with seven home runs each. LCU’s Carson Ogilve has an LSC-high five triples, while ASU’s Tayten Treadaway has league best 14 doubles.
On the mound, St. Edward right-hander Jakub Rayfield has a conference-best 1.42 ERA, while UAFS right-hander Luke Davenport has a league-high five wins. UTPB righty Brock Robarts has six saves to lead the league. ASU righty Dax Dathe has a conference-high 45 strikeouts.
ASU was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. ASU junior outfielder Jacob Guerrero and senior right-hander Braxton Pearson were named
LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

The LSC Baseball Championship will be compiled of the top eight teams based on conference standings. The top four seeds will host opening-round, best-of-three series on May 3-5 at their home parks. The winners will advance to a double elimination tournament on May 9-11 hosted by the top remaining seed.

Jacob Gutierrez, Lubbock Christian, OF, So., Undecided, Lubbock, Texas (Frenship HS)
Gutierrez was 6-for-10 with a home run, two triples and six RBIs to help Lubbock Christian to a four-game series sweep of St. Mary’s. The outfielder also drew three walks and was hit by a pitch. He scored six runs, had at least one hit in all four games and struck out just once. Gutierrez leads the conference with a .795 slugging percentage.
PITCHERs
Alezeah Gutierrez, Angelo State, Jr., Criminal Justice, LHP, El Paso, Texas (Montwood HS)
Gutierrez tossed a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts to lead Angelo State to a victory over Oklahoma Christian. The left-hander did not allow the hit until the sixth inning and he did not allow a runner past second base over the seven-inning, 3-0 game. The 12 strikeouts is a single-game high in the conference this season. The previous high was 10. Gutierrez leads the league by holding batters to a .204 average against him.
