LSC Outdoor Track and Field Release - Week 1

The Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field season is underway. LSC athletes have already recorded 17 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (12 men and five women). To see the conference’s men’s and women’s performance lists, click here.

The conference is compiled of 11 men’s teams and 12 women’s squads. Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward’s, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico have men’s and women’s teams. The 2024 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 19 men and 22 women. To see the list, click here.

The 2024 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 9-11 at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas hosted by Angelo State. West Texas A&M has swept the men’s and women’s conference titles the last three years.

The NCAA Division II Championships are set for May 23-25 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.


LONE STAR CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

(March 15-16 Meets)

MEN’S TRACK
Solomon Odonkor, Angelo State, Fr., Kinesiology, Accra, Ghana (St. Augustine’s)
Odonkor had a pair of top-5 finishes at the Wes Kittley Invitational in Abilene, Texas. The Angelo State freshman finished second in the 200-meter dash with an NCAA Division II provisional time of 21.03. That ranks fourth in the nation. Odonkor also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a 10.53, which is the second fastest in the LSC this season.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Bryce Spencer, Lubbock Christian, Sr., Exercise Science, Sundown, Texas (SHS)
Spencer won gold in the hammer throw and silver in the discus – posting NCAA Division II provisional marks in both events – at the West Texas A&M Spring Break Open in Canyon, Texas. The Lubbock Christian senior’s hammer throw went 62.09 and ranks No. 1 in the country. Spencer’s discuss mark was 52.06 meters and is second in the nation.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Averie Griffith, Angelo State, Sr., Criminal Justice, Portland, Texas (Gregory Portland HS)
Griffith posted three top-5 finishes at the Wes Kittley Invitational in Abilene, Texas, including an NCAA Division II provisional time in the 100-meter hurdles. The Angelo State senior took third place in the event that she now owns the top time in the LSC and fifth overall in the nation. Griffith was a part of the 4x400-meter relay team that took gold with a 3:59.40. She also finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:04.64.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Kailee Benton, West Texas A&M, So., Sports and Exercise Science Pre PT, Amarillo, Texas (Randall HS)
Benton won gold in the long jump and silver in the triple jump at the West Texas A&M Spring Break Open in Canyon, Texas. The West Texas A&M sophomore had a 19' 0.75" (5.81m) and 37' 9.25" (11.51m), respectively. Her long jump mark is fourth in the nation and tops in the LSC. Benton’s triple jump mark is third in the conference.
