LSC Outdoor Track and Field Release - Week 2

The Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field season is two weeks in. LSC athletes have already recorded 52 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (22 men and 30 women). To see the conference’s men’s and women’s performance lists, click here.

The conference is compiled of 11 men’s teams and 12 women’s squads. Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward’s, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico have men’s and women’s teams. The 2024 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 19 men and 22 women. To see the list, click here.

The 2024 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 9-11 at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas hosted by Angelo State. West Texas A&M has swept the men’s and women’s conference titles the last three years.

The NCAA Division II Championships are set for May 23-25 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.


LONE STAR CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

(March 22-23 Meets)

MEN’S TRACK
George Garcia, Lubbock Christian, So., Undecided, El Paso, Texas (Eastwood HS)
Garcia took the gold medal in the 400-meter dash at the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open in Lubbock, Texas with the top time in all of NCAA Division II. The Lubbock Christian sophomore ran a 46.26, which is a provisional time and .52 faster than anyone else in the nation. He also posted a 21.18 in the 200-meter, which ranks third in the LSC this season.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Markim Felix, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Gr., Marlmount, St. Davids, Grenada
Felix finished in third place in the javelin at the Texas A&M Invite in College Station, Texas. The Texas A&M-Kingsville graduate student’s throw of 72.44 (237’8”) was behind only two NCAA Division I athlete and ranks second in all of NCAA Division II this season. The provisional mark was just 1.64m off the top spot in the country.

WOMEN’S TRACK
Shadae Findley, Angelo State, Sr., Management, Manchester, Jamaica (St. Elizabeth)
Findley ran the fastest 400 meter time in all of NCAA Division II this season with a 53.86 to win the Texas Tech Masked Rider Open in Lubbock, Texas. The Angelo State senior’s mark is .13 faster than second place. Findley also posted a 24.58 in the 200m, which ranks sixth in the LSC this season.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Katryna Hernandez, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Sr., Skidmore, Texas (Skidmore-Tynan HS)
Hernandez posted a 14.36m (47’1.5”) mark in the shot put at the Texas A&M Invite in College Station, Texas. The Texas A&M-Kingsville senior’s NCAA Division II provisional throw is the fifth longest in the nation this season and tops in the conference. At the meet, she finished behind only NCAA Division I athletes.
