The Lone Star Conference baseball season is five weeks in.
 
West Texas A&M is on top of the standings at 12-4. The No. 5-ranked Buffs (13-5 overall) are a league-best 8-2 at their home ballpark.
 
Lubbock Christian (13-7 overall) is 13-7 in conference and fresh off a sweep of UAFS. The Chaps have won a league-high five games in a row and are 10-2 on the road. UAFS is 10-6 in conference, followed by Angelo State (12-8), No. 25 UT Tyler (11-9) and Texas A&M International (11-9).
 
After LCU with the top winning streak is St. Mary’s, which has won four in a row (after a sweep of Oklahoma Christian). ASU and Texas A&M-Kingsville have won three in a row.
 
LCU leads the league in hitting (.332), while UAFS has the top pitching (4.79 ERA). ASU owns the league’s top fielding percentage (.977).
 
UAFS’ Brandon Ulmer is leading the league with a .472 batting average, followed by Cameron’s Lance Barnett (.459) and WT’s Dylan Fesperman (.439). Cameron teammates Barnett and Wyatt Grant lead the conference with seven home runs. LCU’s Carson Ogilve and ASU’s Tripp Clark have four triples, while ASU’s Tayten Treadaway has an LSC-high 12 doubles. Clark has also driven in 33 runs and is tied for the league lead with TAMIU’s Abiam Medina.
 
On the mound, St. Edward right-hander Jakub Rayfield has a conference-best 1.50 ERA, while TAMIU righty Isaac Ponce leads the league with four wins and a batting average against of .184. UTPB righty Brock Robarts has four saves and ASU’s Dax Dathe has a conference-high 39 strikeouts.
 
ASU was the top pick in the LSC preseason poll. ASU junior outfielder Jacob Guerrero and senior right-hander Braxton Pearson were named LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

The LSC Baseball Championship will be compiled of the top eight teams based on conference standings. The top four seeds will host opening-round, best-of-three series on May 3-5 at their home parks. The winners will advance to a double elimination tournament on May 9-11 hosted by the top remaining seed.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER
Brevin McCool, Lubbock Christian, 3B, Jr., Undecided, Hobbs, N.M. (HHS)
McCool batted .600, hit for the cycle, drove in 10 runs, walked four times and scored nine runs to lead Lubbock Christian to a four-game road sweep of Oklahoma Christian. McCool went deep one other time in the series. His cycle came in Game 2 and he completed it in four at-bats, tripling in the sixth inning. He finished the game 4-for-4 with two walks and six RBIs. He never struck out over the four games and stole one base.
 
PITCHERs
Dax Dathe, Angelo State, RHP, Jr., Interdisciplinary Studies, Round Rock, Texas (Stony Point HS)
Dathe came out of the bullpen with no outs in the second inning and finished the game, allowing no runs on two hits – both singles – with eight strikeouts and no walks. Dathe, who leads the conference in strikeouts, got the Game 3 win (5-2) for Angelo State against UAFS and tilted the series in the Rams’ favor. Batters hit just .100 over six innings against the right-hander.
