There are only two more weekends left in the Lone Star Conference baseball regular season. The race for the regular season title is tight with West Texas A&M (31-11, 30-10 LSC), Lubbock Christian (30-12, 29-11) and Angelo State (30-12, 28-12) all within two games of each other. WT and LCU square off this weekend for a four-game series in Canyon, Texas. ASU travels to Austin to face St. Edward’s.
 
UT Tyler (26-18, 26-18) and UT Permian Basin (24-18, 22-18) are right behind the WT, LCU and ASU trio.
 
ASU has won a league-best seven straight games.
 
WT leads the league in hitting (.351), while Angelo State has the top pitching (5.00 ERA). ASU also owns the league’s top fielding percentage (.975). LCU has 64 home runs, just one ahead of Cameron.
 
ASU’s Tripp Clark is leading the league with a .459 batting average (as well as 66 RBIs), followed by UT Tyler’s Nathan Carriere (.437) and LCU’s Carson Ogilvie (.428). Ogilvie also leads in slugging percentage (.813), OPS (1.311) and doubles (19; tied with ASU’s Jacob Guerrero). Cameron’s Wyatt Grant has the LSC’s home run league with 16, while UTPB’s Carson Johnson has a conference-high seven triples. Guerrero, UTPB’s Mason Hamlin and Texas A&M International’s Nomar Prieto have are tied with the stolen bases lead with 21.
 
On the mound, UT Tyler right-hander Rawley Hector leads the league with a 3.28 ERA. LCU left-hander Ryan Markwardt, ASU lefty Alezeah Gutierrez and righty Dax Dathe are all tied with the conference lead with seven wins. Opponents are hitting just .223 off Gutierrez (best in the LSC), while Dathe has struck out a league-high 76 batters. UTPB righty Brock Robarts has seven saves to lead the LSC.

ASU was the top pick in the LSC preseason poll. ASU’s Guerrero and senior right-hander Braxton Pearson were named LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
 
The LSC Baseball Championship will be compiled of the top eight teams based on conference standings. The top four seeds will host opening-round, best-of-three series on May 3-5 at their home parks. The winners will advance to a double elimination tournament on May 9-11 hosted by the top remaining seed.

HITTER
Tripp Clark, Angelo State, C/DH, Sr., Accounting, Waco, Texas (Midway HS)
Clark was 8-for-14 with three home runs, two doubles and nine RBIs to lead nationally-ranked Angelo State to a four-game sweep of Texas A&M-Kingsville. Clark, who takes the conference’s top weekly hitting award for the second time this season, also scored six runs, walked twice, was hit by a pitch and intentionally walked. He had a 1.357 slugging percentage and .611 on-base percentage. Clark raised his conference-high batting average to .459 and helped the Rams increase their winning streak to seven games. He had an extra-base hit in every game and went deep in all but one.
 
PITCHER
Rawley Hector, UT Tyler, RHP, Jr., Marketing, Van Alstyne, Texas (Anna HS)
Hector tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout to earn the win for UT Tyler over UT Permian Basin. Hector struck out four batters and walked just one over the seven-frame, series opener. The right-hander did not allow a hit until two outs in the fifth inning and all the hits were singles. He shut out a UTPB team that had won eight straight games.
