LSC Outdoor Track and Field Release - Week 5

The Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field season is five weeks in. LSC athletes have recorded 155 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (68 men and 87 women). To see the conference’s men’s and women’s performance lists, click here.

The conference is compiled of 11 men’s teams and 12 women’s squads. Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward’s, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico have men’s and women’s teams. The 2024 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 19 men and 22 women. To see the list, click here.

The 2024 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 9-11 at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas hosted by Angelo State. West Texas A&M has swept the men’s and women’s conference titles the last three years.

The NCAA Division II Championships are set for May 23-25 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
(April 11-13 Meets)

MEN’S TRACK
William Amponsah, West Texas A&M, Jr., Sports and Exercise Science, Agona Swedru, Central, Ghana (Swedru School of Business)
Amponsah ran the second fastest 10,000 meters time in all of NCAA Division II this season and broke a West Texas A&M record with a 28 flat at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azuza, Calif. Amponsah finished in fourth place, behind only Division I and professional runners. No other Division II runners were in the top 10.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Alex Williams, Eastern New Mexico, So., Physical Education, Kingston, Jamaica
Williams won the javelin at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla., with a school-record throw of 219-6 (66.90m). The Eastern New Mexico sophomore’s NCAA Division II provisional throw ranks eighth in the entire nation. Williams has taken gold in the javelin in two straight meets.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Florance Uwajeneza, West Texas A&M, Sr., Nursing, St. Paul, Minn.
Uwajeneza posted the top 10,000 meters time in all of NCAA Division II with a 32:52.54 to finish third at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azuza, Calif. The West Texas A&M senior finished behind only Division I runners.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Tiamara Hill-Johnson, Angelo State, So, Interdisciplinary Studies, Duncanville, Texas (DHS)
Hill-Johnson was the top collegiate finisher in the discus at the War Hawk Classic in Abilene, Texas. The Angelo State sophomore recorded an NCAA Division II provisional mark of 162-4 (49.47), which is the third longest throw in the nation this season. Hill-Johnson also finished third in the hammer throw with a 145-11 (44.47).
