LSC Outdoor Track and Field Release - Week 7

The Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field season is seven weeks in and the conference championship is only nine days away.

LSC athletes have recorded 178 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (79 men and 99 women). West Texas A&M’s Isaac Botsio (100 meters; 9.93) and William Amponsah (10,000 meters; 28:00.09) own top marks in all of NCAA Division II on the men’s side, while WT’s Florance Uwajeneza (10,000 meters; 32.52.54) and Angelo State’s Fatoumata Kabo (400 hurdles; 58.59) are tops in the country on the women’s side.

The conference is compiled of 11 men’s teams and 12 women’s squads. Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward’s, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico have men’s and women’s teams. The 2024 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 9-11 at 1st Community Credit Union Field at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas hosted by Angelo State. West Texas A&M has swept the men’s and women’s conference titles the last three years.

The NCAA Division II Championships are set for May 23-25 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.

MEN’S TRACK
West Texas A&M 4x400 Meter Relay Team: Aymeric Fermely, Allen Henderson, Chance Martelli, Malick Diop
West Texas A&M’s 4x400 meter relay team of Aymeric Fermely, Allen Henderson, Chance Martelli and Malick Diop ran a 3:12.44 to win gold at the Corky Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas. The Buffs topped three NCAA Division I teams. Their Division II provisional time ranks in the top 30 in the country this season.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Markim Felix, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Gr., Marlmount, St. Davids, Grenada
Felix took third place in the javelina at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas with a throw of 215-5 (65.65m). Felix, who needed just a single attempt, finished behind only NCAA Division I competition. The Texas A&M-Kingsville graduate student owns the fourth best javelin throw in all of Division II this year.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Fatoumata Kabo, Angelo State, So., Visual Performaing Arts, Carpindolol, Italy (Liceo Artistico A. Del Prato)
Kabo won gold in three events at Texas Tech’s Corky Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas, including the 400-meter hurdles with the top time (58.59) in NCAA Division II this season. The Angelo State sophomore also won as a member of the 4x100 meter relay (school-record 45.32) and 4x400 meter relay team (3:39.73). The relay times are both top-10 in the country this year.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Kennedy Ulmer, Eastern New Mexico, So., Biology, Rio Rancho, N.M. (V. Sue Cleveland HS)
Ulmer recorded her second NCAA Division II provisional mark of the year in the discus at the Corky Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock, Texas. The Eastern New Mexico sophomore had a throw of 4.56m (136-4) to finish in fourth place – behind only Division I competition. She is now top-30 in the nation in both the discus and javelin.
