The Lone Star Conference baseball season is 10 weeks in.

West Texas A&M (29-9 overall) has won six games in a row and is on top of the standings at 28-8. Lubbock Christian (27-11 overall) has won five straight and is 26-10 in league play. WT is fresh off a home sweep of Oklahoma Christian, while LCU went on the road to sweep Texas A&M-Kingsville. UT Permian Basin (21-16 overall) did not have a conference series last week, but is on an eight-game winning streak. The Falcons have a non-conference tilt against future LSC member Sul Ross State on Tuesday before traveling to UT Tyler for a four-game conference series.

WT leads the league in hitting (.351), while Angelo State has the top pitching (5.04 ERA). ASU also owns the league’s top fielding percentage (.973). LCU has 59 home runs – seven more than any other team.

ASU’s Tripp Clark is leading the league with a .448 batting average (as well as 57 RBIs), followed by WT’s Dylan Fesperman (.431), who also leads with a 1.303 OPS. Cameron’s Wyatt Grant has the LSC’s home run league with 13, LCU’s Carson Ogilvie has league-high seven triples and ASU’s Jacob Guerrero has a conference-best 17 doubles. Texas A&M International’s Nomar Prieto has stolen an LSC-high 21 bags.

On the mound, Texas A&M-Kingsville right-hander Sergio Lopez leads the league with a 2.76 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .219 off him (also the best in the LSC). LCU left-hander Ryan Markwardt has a league-high seven wins. ASU righty Dax Dathe has struck out a league-high 73 batters. UTPB righty Brock Robarts has seven saves to lead the LSC.

St. Mary’s play-by-play announcer Rob Shadow has started a podcast called, “Baseball in the Lone Star Conference.” The first eight episodes are available on Spotify. Fans can listen to the entire episode or specific clips of interviews with LSC players of the week and coaches across the league. To listen, click here. Week eight interviews: ASU national champion and current Minnesota Twins minor league Kade Bragg, WT’s Dylan Fesperman and TAMIU’s Jan Cabrera.

ASU was the top pick in the LSC preseason poll. ASU’s Guerrero and senior right-hander Braxton Pearson were named LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

The LSC Baseball Championship will be compiled of the top eight teams based on conference standings. The top four seeds will host opening-round, best-of-three series on May 3-5 at their home parks. The winners will advance to a double elimination tournament on May 9-11 hosted by the top remaining seed.
