West Texas A&M leaves Alpine with 42-21 conference win over Sul Ross State: The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M started their 2024 season with a victory on Thursday night as they produced 522 yards of offense, including 383 on the ground, in a 42-21 Lone Star Conference victory over the Sul Ross State Lobos at Jackson Field in Alpine, Texas. WT quarterback Sean Johnson completed 20-of-26 passes for a touchdown while carrying the ball 14 times for 167 yards and four touchdowns.

Midwestern State open season and Renner era with win 18-11 victory over Missouri Southern: Midwestern State opened the Rich Renner era with an 18-11 victory over Missouri Southern at Memorial Stadium on Thursday night. Renner, who spent 16 seasons as the defensive coordinator under Bill Maskill before taking over as the head coach in the off season, saw his team win a defensive battle. No. 24 Angelo State drops season opener to Fort Hays State, 21-7: After the season opener was postponed a day, No. 24 Angelo State fell to Fort Hays State, 21-7, at Lewis Stadium Field in Hays, Kan.
