Sul Ross State fights back to defeat Wayland Baptist in overtime, 52-51: Although it wasn't the prettiest of victories, Sul Ross State found a way to win its first game of the season. The contest featured just about everything from a pick-six, a 55-yard field goal and a record-breaking 80-yard punt return for a touchdown. In the end, it took one overtime period for the Lobos to claw their way back to a 52-51 victory over Wayland Baptist on Saturday afternoon at Jackson Field. Complete Release

 
No. 13 Central Washington tames Colorado Mesa for first win of the season, 28-12: Central Washington earned its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon, taming Colorado Mesa 28-12 on the road. Cam Daniels and Tyler Flanagan led the rushing attack for CWU with each running for 78 yards. The CWU defense was led by Chase Coalson, who finished with 10 tackles. Complete Release

 
Texas A&M-Kingsville uses defense, run game to top Mississippi College, 27-7: Texas A&M-Kingsville rushed for 162 yards and forced three turnovers to win its first game of the season, 27-7, over Mississippi College on Saturday night at Robinson-Hale Stadium. UT Permian Basin rushes for over 300 yards in 67-14 win against Adams State: UT Permian Basin ran for more than 300 yards and found the end zone nine times in a 67-14 win over Adams State on Saturday night at Astound Broadband Stadium. Angelo State downs Eastern New Mexico to begin conference play, 26-20: Angelo State opened up Lone Star Conference play with a victory on Saturday, defeating Eastern New Mexico 26-20 at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field. West Texas A&M falls to No. 15 Western Colorado in home opener, 26-17: West Texas A&M had its chances on Saturday night but mistakes in the red zone were too much to overcome as the Buffs fell to the No. 15-ranked Mountaineers of Western Colorado, 26-17, during the home opener at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in front of 6,219 fans. Western New Mexico scores late to claim La Batalla Bowl victory Over New Mexico Highlands, 36-33: In its home opener, Western New Mexico topped rival New Mexico Highlands 36-33 on Saturday night to claim the annual La Batalla Bowl title. Jamon Chambers rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns and Josh Magana threw for 300 yards and three scores – two to Davey Morales – to lead the Mustangs. WNMU’s Cole Lalama had 15 tackles. Western Oregon falls short at Division I Cal Poly, 31-14: As Western Oregon's Dominique Loggins broke free for a game-tying 44-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter, it was clear that the Wolves were giving NCAA Division I FCS Cal Poly all it could handle.
