St. Mary’s junior forward Elena Kossler has been named the Division II Conference Information Directors (D2CIDA) Women’s Soccer National Player of the Week for her outstanding performance during the week of Oct. 20-26.
Kossler scored four goals in a game and totaled 11 points over an unbeaten week against UT Tyler and Eastern New Mexico.
Kossler assisted on the first goal against ENMU, then scored the next four – including the game-winner – as the Rattlers won 5-1. It was the most points (nine) scored in a single match in the LSC this season and just the second four-goal performance. The four goals also tied a program record.
On the road against UT Tyler, Kossler scored the Rattlers’ only goal in the 60th minute.
Kossler’s play has also helped StMU suffer just one loss over its last eight matches. She leads the LSC in goals per match (.8957) and is tied for the lead with four game-winners.
Kossler is second player from the Lone Star Conference to receive the honor this season, joining
DBU senior midfielder Anne Louthan (Oct. 14).
Women’s Soccer National Players of the Week are selected by a volunteer committee of D2CIDA members from a pool of nominations submitted by conference offices.
