Five of the 17 Lone Star Conference men’s basketball teams have officially gotten their season underway. Of those, four are unbeaten: Angelo State (3-0), St. Edward’s (3-0), No. 25 Lubbock Christian (2-0) and West Texas A&M (2-0).
 
LSC hoops action continues this week with 13 games Friday, 11 games Saturday and four on Sunday. To see the league schedule, click here.
 
No. 3 DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. St. Mary’s senior guard Damani Claxton was voted preseason player of the year.
 
The LSC men’s basketball tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for March 5, 7-8 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tickets will go on sale in February.
 
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, new league member UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC tournament but are able to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

OFFENSIVE
Jaqai Murray, Angelo State, F, Sr., Education, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Angelo State senior forward Jaqai Murray averaged 14.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists to lead a 3-0 showing at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic in Billings, Mont. Murray erupted for a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 74-66 win over No. 10 Colorado School of Mines. Murray shot 60 percent from the field and added a block as the Rams also topped Nebraska-Kearney and New Mexico Highlands.
 
DEFENSIVE
Zyon Little, Angelo State, F, Jr., Business Management, Dickinson, Texas
Angelo State junior forward Zyon Little pulled down 10 defensive rebounds and averaged seven boards per game over three wins to begin the season at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic in Billings, Mont. Little opened the year with an 11-point, eight-rebound, two-steals performance off the bench against Nebraska-Kearney. He had eight rebounds and a block in 19 minutes of action in a 74-66 win over No. 10 Colorado School of Mines.
