St. Mary is one of the hottest teams in all of NCAA Division II with a 10-game winning streak. The Rattlers (14-4 overall) are atop the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball standings at 13-1. StMU dropped their conference opener on Nov. 21 but are unbeaten in league play since then.
 
DBU is also red-hot, winning seven games in a row. The Patriots (21-3 overall) are 13-2 in league play and have not lost on the road (8-0).
 
Lubbock Christian (16-6, 11-3), UT Permian Basin (15-6, 11-4) and Midwestern State (15-5, 10-4) have also reached double-digit conference wins.
 
This week’s slate features eight games on Thursday and eight more on Saturday.
 
Eastern New Mexico is scoring a league-high 89.1 points per game, while StMU is only allowing 65.9 points per game.
 
Sul Ross State’s Ethan Yancy (44 points) has the top-scoring performance this season. UT Permian Basin teammates Dario Domingos and Freddie Word have the most rebounds in a game (16) and Texas A&M International’s Duncan Alevok has an eight-block performance. Eastern New Mexico’s Austin Abrams has game-highs in assists (11) and steals (seven). TAMIU’s Marco Foster made a league-best eight 3-pointers in a game.
 
DBU’s Ricky Lujan is averaging a league-high 17.8 points per game, followed by West Texas A&M’s Ahamed Mohammed (17.5), StMU’s Damani Claxton (17.1) and UTPB’s Alex Mathews (17). More league stat leaders include: StMU’s Lachlan Bofiner (9.8 rebounds pg), CU’s Reggie Prudhomme (5.9 assists pg) and ENMU’s Jose Murillo (1.4 blocks pg). WT’s Jailyn Sledge and DBU’s Xavion Brown are averaging 2.1 steals per game. Murillo is shooting 67.1 percent (112-for-165) from the field, while Oklahoma Christian’s Marcos Foster is shooting 45.7 percent (63-for-138) from 3-point range. Western New Mexico’s Carson Kelly is shooting 92.2 percent (83-for-90) from the free-throw line.
 
The LSC Basketball Championship will be March 6-9 at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. The top eight of the 16 men’s teams based on overall conference standings (22 games) will qualify. The men’s quarterfinals will be on March 7, followed by the semifinals on March 8 and the title game on March 9.

OFFENSIVE
Alex Matthews, UT Permian Basin, F, Sr., Communication, Elizabethtown, Ky.
UT Permian Basin senior forward Alex Matthews averaged 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to fuel a 2-0 week against Western New Mexico and Sul Ross State. Matthews shot 51.7 percent from the field and was 5-for-6 from 3-point range. Against SRSU, Matthews scored a season-high 27 points. Over the two games, Matthews added five assists, three steals and a blocked shot. He also went 12-for-15 from the free throw line.
 
DEFENSIVE
Gavino Ramos, St. Edward’s, G, Sr., Kinesiology, San Antonio, Texas
St. Edward’s senior guard Gavin Ramos had six steals, two blocks and five defensive rebounds to lead the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 week on the road against Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M International. Ramos, who won the league’s top weekly offensive award earlier in the season, added 11 points and seven assists per game. Ramos and company allowed just 65.5 points per game on 27 percent shooting. Ramos blocked TAMIU’s game-tying 3-point try in overtime. He has helped SEU to three consecutive wins and four over its last five.
