Lubbock Christian sophomore guard Ethan Duncan claimed Lone Star Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Year honors to headline the league’s postseason awards, which were announced Wednesday (March 5).
The awards were revealed at the annual championship banquet at Main Event in Frisco, Texas ahead of the LSC Basketball Championship, which is set to tip off Thursday at Comerica Center.
Duncan, who was also a First Team selection, averaged 15.3 points per game and led the league with 82 three-pointers on 42.5 shooting from beyond the arc. The 6-foot guard from Lubbock, Texas also averaged two assists per game and totaled 31 steals. His play helped the Chaps to a LSC West Division title.
DBU junior guard Xavion Brown was named Defensive Player of the Year after blocking 38 shots and averaging two steals per game. DBU also had the Sixth Man of the Year as sophomore guard Trevor Frank (54 steals) won the honor for the second consecutive year. West Texas A&M’s Narit Chotikavanic was named Freshman of the Year after scoring 10.8 points per game. St. Mary’s junior guard Damani Claxton won Newcomer of the Year honors after averaging 17.4 points per game.
Claxton was also a first-team selection, while Brown was a second-team pick. Chotikavanic was on the All-Freshman Team.
DBU’s Blake Flickner was voted Coach of the Year after guiding the Patriots’ first LSC regular season title in program history, as well as an East Division title.
Overall, 45 student-athletes earned recognition. The awards are voted on by the league’s 16 head coaches.
