set the all-time NCAA Division II 10,000-meter outdoor record with a 27:47.93 at Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. He broke the mark of 27:48.06 set by Chico State’s Scott Bauhs in 2008.
In addition to Amponsah, West Texas A&M’s Joseph Oreva (7.86m in long jump) and Romet Vahter (7,592 in decathlon), Angelo State’s Solomon Odonkor (10.08m in 100-meter), Oleg Ananev (5.60m in pole vault) and Mark Burdin (7,338 points in decathlon) own top Division II marks on the men’s side.

The 2025 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set for May 1-3 at Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium in Portales, N.M. hosted by Eastern New Mexico. WT has swept the men’s and women’s conference titles the last four years.
The NCAA Division II Championships will be held May 22-24 at CSU Pueblo Thunderbowl in Pueblo, Colo.
The LSC is compiled of 11 men’s teams and 12 women’s squads. Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward’s, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico have men’s and women’s teams. Midwestern State has only a women’s team.

West Texas A&M senior William Amponsah set a new NCAA Division II outdoor record in the 10,000-meter with a 27:47.93 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. Amponsah, a senior Ghana product, surpassed the mark of 27:48.06 set by Chico State’s Scott Bauhs in 2008. Amponsah finished in fourth place in the event behind only Division I athletes.
MEN’S FIELD
Kobi Valchar, Angelo State, So., Commercial Aviation, Schulenburg, Texas
Angelo State sophomore Kobi Valchar won discus gold at the ASU Invite in San Angelo, Texas with a throw of 51.81m (170’0”). His NCAA Division II provisional mark ranks 30th in the country. Valchar was also runner-up in the shot put with a 15.30m (50’2.5”) and sixth place in the hammer throw with a 46.97m (154’1”).
WOMEN’S TRACK
Abigail Abugire, West Texas A&M, Fr., Sports and Exercise Science, Legon, Ghana
West Texas A&M freshman Abigail Abugire broke her own school record in the 800-meters with a 2:04.81 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. She then registered the second-best 1,5000-meter mark in school history with a 4:20.57. The NCAA Division II provisional times ranked fourth and seventh in the country this season, respectively.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Fedra Florentine, Angelo State, Sr., Interdisciplinary Studies, Filadelfia, Paraguay
Angelo State senior Fedra Florentine won shot put gold at the ASU Invite in San Angelo, Texas, with a toss of 14.83m (48’8”). The NCAA Division II provisional mark ranked 13th in the entire nation this season.
