Texas A&M-Kingsville's Ray and West Texas A&M's Holcombe lead LSC Outdoor Track & Field academic honorees

 
Athletes Jazmin Ray of Texas A&M-Kingsville and Luke Holcombe of West Texas A&M have been selected as the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track and Field Academic Athletes of the Year, it was announced by the league office on Thursday (May 15).
 
Ray leads 11 women named to the All-Academic Team while Holcombe headlines 11 on the men’s All-Academic Team.
 
A graduate student pursuing a master's degree in business administration after completing her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Ray carries a 4.00 grade-point average. She is a TAMUK President’s List honoree and has earned LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll citations. Competing in triple jump, Ray qualified for the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships with the top performance in the South Central Region and fourth best in Division II (12.73 meters). She holds the Javelinas’ triple jump records for indoor and outdoor track and field
 
Holcombe is a senior studying sports and exercise science with a 4.00 grade-point average. He has earned multiple LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll awards. Competing in throwing events – shot put, discus and hammer throw – Holcombe is a two-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree. He placed second in the hammer throw and third in shot put at the 2025 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and qualified for his second Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in shot put with a 17.89 meters toss.
 
Ray is joined on the women's outdoor track and field All-Academic Team by Maricia Spence, Angelo State; Meadow Housman and Courtney Richman, DBU; Meghan Rodriguez and Jordian Stewart, Eastern New Mexico; Vitiana Robert, Texas A&M-Kingsville; Isabel Jakobsen, UT Tyler; and Blessing Akintoye, Leah Belfield and Julie Lafare of West Texas A&M.
 
Four of the women are multi-season All-Academic Team members. Robert is a three-time honoree (2023-24-25) while Spence (2024-25), Housman (2024-25) and Belfield (2023-25) are two-time award recipients.
 
Joining Holcombe on the men's outdoor track and field All-Academic Team is two-time All-Academic Team honoree Aiden Zingone of Lubbock Christian (2024-25); Tristan Guerro, Angelo State; Luke Browning, DBU; Caden Nunn and Alfons Rawall of LCU; Brandon Arenas, Jackson Crysup and Ashton Turner of UT Tyler; Romet Vahter, West Texas A&M; and George Peru, Western New Mexico.
 
Selected by vote of the LSC sports information directors, the Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Teams recognize student-athlete accomplishments in the classroom and in their sport. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team ballot, individuals must maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and have reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
 
Both Ray and Holcombe will be candidates for the 2024-25 LSC Fred Jacoby Academic Athlete of the Year awards to be announced in June.
