West Texas A&M loses heartbreaker to Colorado School of Mines, 33-31: West Texas A&M battled back to tie the game before Colorado School of Mines came up with a fourth quarter safety to pull out a 33-31 victory at Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium. The Buffaloes wasted little time getting on the board as they marched 75 yards on 11 plays, capped off by an RJ Martinez three-yard rushing touchdown. Martinez completed 33 of 47 passes for 273 yards to go along with 133 rushing yards on 23 carries with three scores. Drew Zamar caught a team-high six passes for 101 yards. WT went on another long drive late in the third quarter finished off by a one-yard dive up the middle by Gene Sledge to tie the game at 31-31. Miles Hill led WT defensively with 11 total tackles.

Western New Mexico falls in shootout with New Mexico Highlands, 69-55: Western New Mexico met with New Mexico Highlands for the 14th time since 2003, playing in the La Batalla Bowl. The Mustangs fell to NMHU, 69-55. WNMU trailed 35-7 before tying things up 48-48 on a Connor Ackerley five-yard TD pass to Gabriel Levy with 11:01 left in the game. The score was knotted up again at 55-55 with 7:30 left on a Deuce Zimmerman 20-yard TD reception. Ackerly finished 34 of 57 for 529 yards and a school record seven TDs. His TD tosses also tied the LSC record, last accomplished in 2013 by West Texas A&M's Dustin Vaughan. Zimmerman and Derrick Sailor each caught two TDs. Clayton Zentner forced a fumble for WNMU.

Defense, ground game lead Western Oregon to season-opening win over Southern Oregon, 27-7: While it was the first meeting between Western Oregon and Southern Oregon football in 15 years, the trend continued as the Wolves moved their win streak over the Raiders to 11 games with a convincing 27-7 win at McArthur Field. WOU held SOU to 28 yards rushing. Offensively,
Jermaine Land paced the Wolves with 139 rushing yards on 19 carries while quarterback
Kainoa Jones added two scores on the ground.
Dylan Camp led the Wolves with eight tackles and an interception.
Malcolm Liufau also had a pick. WOU led 20-0 at halftime.

No. 10 Angelo State downs Emporia State in home opener, 41-20: No. 10 Angelo State opened its home slate of the season with a 41-20 win over Emporia State at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field. The Rams jumped out on top early, scoring three touchdowns in just over two minutes. Braeden Fuller found Corey Sandolph on an 80-yard TD pass for the first score of the game. On the next drive, Demetrius Charles intercepted the Hornets before returning it 21 yards for the score. He followed up with another interception moments later, setting up a three-yard TD run by Kaeden Smith. The Rams led 27-3 after the first quarter. ASU's defense held ESU to only 51 yards rushing.

Eastern New Mexico falls to Colorado Mesa, 28-7: Eastern New Mexico managed to score first for a second straight game, but fell to Colorado Mesa, 28-7, in Grand Junction, Colo. On ENMU’s second drive, it went 80 yards on 11 plays before

Gerry Gomez in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown reception and the game’s first points. CMU went on to score 28 unanswered points. ENMU’s Chad Ragle ran for 127 yards on 24 carries. Defensively, Aaron Warren (13) and Matthew Quartieri (11) had double-digit tackles.

No. 21 UT Permian Basin cruises by Adams State, 41-7: No. 21 UT Permian Basin utilized 266 passing yards and three touchdowns by Isaac Mooring to top Adams State 41-7 in Alamosa, Colo. The Falcons improved to 2-0 on the season. Mooring, who was 20 pf 26 passing, threw a seven-yard TD to Jaylon Tillman for the game’s first points with 25 seconds left in the first quarter. UTPB went on to build a 34-0 lead until Adams State scored with 44 second left in the third quarter. Kory Harris had two rushing TDs for UTPB. Jamarion Ravenell had a 96-yard interception return for a TD in the second quarter and Elijah Gerrard had a sack and forced a fumble to lead UTPB’s defense.

Midwestern State falls to No. 9 Western Colorado, 38-13: Western Colorado defeated Midwestern State 38-13 in its home opener at Memorial Stadium. WCU built up a 35-0 lead after three quarters before MSU found the end zone twice in the fourth. Jakolby Longino had two TD passes – one to Case Peacock and one to Jamarion Carroll. Longino finished with 302 yards in the air and Demonte Grene caught 11 passes for 98 yards. Defensively, MSU was led by Noah Bustard’s eight tackles and a sack for a loss of seven yards, and Amani Pressley’s interception.

Texas A&M-Kingsville opens season with 60-12 win over Lincoln: The Scott Parr era kicked off with a bang for Texas A&M-Kingsville as it topped Lincoln (Calif.) 60-12 at Javelina Stadium. The Javelinas utilized a dynamic offense, tallying 478 total yards and building up a 38-0 lead at halftime. Quarterback Jack Turner passed for 278 yards and four touchdowns – two to CJ Thompson. All of Turner’s TD tosses were in the first half. Three Javelinas had interceptions: Quintin Montgomery, Jeremiah Conaway and Darrius Pamplin. Tre Robbins added 1.5 sacks. Daniel Gauna notched three field goals for TAMUK.

No. 18 Central Washington’s strong first half not enough in 42-17 loss to FCS No. 10 Montana: No. 18 Central Washington University saw the FCS No. 10-ranked Montana use a strong second half to pull away and hand the Wildcats their first setback of the season, 42-17, in Missoula, Mont. CWU got a 44-yard field goal from David Weber in the first quarter then a 15-yard touchdown pass from Kennedy McGill to Camden Loidhamer and a 31-yard TD run from Beau Phillips in the second to trail just 21-17 at halftime. Defensively for CWU, Javonte Walker and Jalen Webber each had interceptions.
