Lone Star Conference volleyball league play is six weeks in, and only one team remains unbeaten: No. 6 Angelo State (7-0). The Rambelles are 17-1 overall and have won nine matches in a row.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville (13-5, 6-1 LSC) and DBU (12-3, 5-1 LSC) have just one league loss, while Western New Mexico (11-7, 5-2 LSC) and Midwestern State (9-8, 5-2 LSC) have both won three matches in a row.
 
Conference play continues this week with 17 matches over Friday and Saturday.
 
Angelo State leads the league in hitting percentage (.264), assists (13.03 per set) and kills (14.18 per set). Western New Mexico is tops in the LSC in blocks (2.47 per set) and Texas A&M-Kingsville leads in digs (17.84 per set). UT Tyler and DBU are tied for the conference lead in service aces (2.02 per set).
 
UT Tyler senior outside hitter Melanie Merrill was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s first national player of the week of the 2026 season on Sept. 1. She is just the second player in program history to win the honor, joining Mikayla Ware (2021).
 
ASU is the favorite to win the LSC regular season title this season, according the preseason poll. ASU’s Madi Parrish, Texas Woman’s Alyssa Rojo and Lubbock Christian’s Camdyn Sears were voted preseason players of the year.
 
The LSC volleyball tournament will feature the top nine teams and is set for Nov. 11-14 at the site of the No. 1 seed.
 
All LSC volleyball teams are eligible to win the regular season title and advance to the LSC and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Julia Hopkins, Angelo State, OH, Jr., Psychology, Austin, Texas
Angelo State junior outside hitter Julia Hopkins averaged 4.38 kills per set with a .329 hitting percentage to fuel road wins over UT Dallas and UT Tyler. Hopkins had a career-high 19 kills in a four-set match with UTD and followed it up with 16 against UT Tyler. She added eight digs, three blocks and one assist as the No. 7-ranked Rambelles improved their winning streak to nine matches. Hopkins and ASU lead the conference with a .264 hitting percentage.
 
DEFENSIVE
Daphne Posthumus, Western New Mexico, MH, So., Cell and Molecular Biology, Lelystad, Netherlands
Western New Mexico sophomore middle hitter Daphne Posthumus totaled 19 blocks to lead a 3-0 week, including handing DBU its first conference loss of the season. Posthumus had nine blocks and a season-high eight digs in the four-set win that snapped the Patriots’ eight-match winning streak. She added 30 kills with a .367 hitting percentage, six more digs, two service aces and an assist as WNMU also topped UT Permian Basin and Texas Woman’s. Posthumus leads the conference with 83 blocks.
 
SETTER
Macy Scheer, Midwestern State, S, Jr., Management, Golden, Colo.
Midwestern State junior setter Macy Scheer paced a 3-0 week by averaging 12.83 assists per set, including dishing out an LSC season-high 69 assists in a five-set win over West Texas A&M. Scheer’s assists total against WT was 10 more than anyone else in the conference this season and the most by a Mustang since 2005. It was just MSU’s second win over WT in 45 meetings. Scheer added 20 digs, seven kills, four service aces and one block as MSU also topped Oklahoma Christian and Cameron.
 
FRESHMAN
Avery Gray, UT Dallas, L, Fr., Criminology, Lucas, Texas
UT Dallas freshman libero Avery Gray averaged 6.23 digs per set over a 2-1 week that included wins against St. Mary’s and UT Permian Basin. She had match highs in digs in all three matches, including 23 in a four-set loss to No. 7 Angelo State. Gray, who wins the league’s top weekly freshman award for the second time this season, added 21 assists and two service aces. Grays leads the conference with 5.38 digs per set (301 total).
