Lone Star Conference softball is officially underway as all 17 teams have played at least three games – all non-conference.
No. 8 West Texas A&M (6-0), No. 13 Angelo State (5-0) and No. 25 Oklahoma Christian (4-0) are the only teams remaining without a loss. St. Mary’s (4-1), Western New Mexico (3-1) and Eastern New Mexico (2-1) have dropped just one game.
Non-conference games resume this weekend. League games begin the following weekend (Feb. 13-15).
The WT duo of senior infielder Jordyn De Los Santos and freshman left-handed pitcher/designated hitter Brooke Janning
swept the first National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Louisville Slugger Player of the Week and Wilson Pitcher of the Week awards of the season, respectively.
Two-time defending national champion and No. 1 UT Tyler was the top pick in the
LSC preseason poll. ASU senior outfielder Tatiana Trotter and OC senior right-hander Jill Dickson were named
LSC Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to headline the 34 players on the league’s
Preseason Watch List.
The nine-team, single-elimination LSC Softball Championship is scheduled for May 6-9 (Wednesday-Saturday) at the site of the league’s No. 1 seed. The LSC Tournament Champion will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship.
The South Central Regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 with the Super Regional following on May 21-22. The campus sites are TBD. The national finals are set for May 28-June 3 at Frost Stadium at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Due to being NCAA Division II provisional members, UT Dallas and Sul Ross State are not eligible for the LSC or NCAA tournament but are eligible to win the LSC regular season title and postseason awards.

West Texas A&M senior infielder Jordyn De Los Santos hit .706 with three home runs, two triples, a double and 12 RBI to lead the No. 8 Lady Buffs to a 6-0 start to the season. De Los Santos also scored nine runs, walked three times, stole a base and played errorless defense. She hit safely in all six games against New Mexico Highlands, Adams State (twice), UCCS and Southwestern Oklahoma State (twice) in Los Luna, N.M.. De Los Santos had a homer and triple in the season-opening victory against New Mexico Highlands.

Brooke Janning, West Texas A&M, LHP/DH, Fr., Communication Science and Disorders, Blair Neb.
West Texas A&M freshman left-handed pitcher and designated hitter Brooke Janning went 3-0 without allowing a run in the circle and batted .474 with four extra-base hits at the plate to lead the No. 8-ranked Lady Buffs to a perfect start to the season. Janning struck out 14 batters over 13 innings of work, logged a shutout against UCCS and allowed just a .174 opponents’ batting average. She hit three doubles, a triple, drove in six runs and scored seven more times. Her play helped WT also top New Mexico Highlands, Adams State (twice) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (twice) in Los Lunas, N.M.
