Angelo State’s William Opare and West Texas A&M’s Fran Bonifacic, Blessing Akintoye and Esther Conde-Turpin and claimed Lone Star Conference Indoor Track and Field individual honors to headline the league’s postseason awards, which were announced Thursday (March 12) by the league office.
The LSC honored 124 athletes for their efforts at the 2026 LSC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were held Feb. 27-28 at Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.
Opare was named LSC Indoor Outstanding Male Track Athlete. The freshman from Accra, Ghana totaled a meet-high 21.50 points. Opare took gold in the 200 meter (20.89) and 400 meter (45.95), and also earned points in the 4x400 meter relay.
Bonifacic earned the title of LSC Indoor Outstanding Male Field Athlete. The junior from Punat, Croatia earned points in the pole vault (4.81m) and long jump (7.05m), as well as the 60-meter hurdles (8.30). Bonifacic, who also had a top-10 finish in the shot put (13.86m), earned a silver medal in the pole vault and totaled 15 points.
Akintoye was voted LSC Indoor Outstanding Female Track Athlete after taking gold in both the 400 (52.28) meters and 200 meters (23.67). The junior from Ogun state, Nigeria set an all-time LSC and meet record in the 400. It was also a personal best time. She totaled 20 points.
Conde-Turpin was dubbed LSC Indoor Outstanding Female Field Athlete. The junior from Reunion Island, France had top-3 finishes in the long jump (5.91m), shot put (13.40m) and high jump (1.63m). She also took gold in the 60-meter hurdles (8.32). Conde-Turpin totaled a meet-high 28.50 points.
Opare, Bonifacic, Akintoye and Conde-Turpin were also members of the All-Conference First Team.
WT’s Matt Stewart won Men’s Coach of the Year honors for the sixth straight year after guiding a sixth straight conference title. Stewart also secured Women’s Coach of the Year honors for a sixth straight time after leading a 13th-straight LSC championship.
The list of all-conference performers includes the first team, which consists of event winners, all members of the winning relay teams and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The second team includes athletes on the second-place relay teams and those scoring 8-13.9 points, while the third team recognizes members of third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points. The special awards were voted upon by the league coaches.
2026 LSC INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ALL-CONFERENCE AWARDS
The all-conference first team consists of event winners, including all members of the winning relay teams and athletes scoring 14 or more points at the LSC Championships. The all-conference second team consists of all members of the second-place relay teams and athletes scoring 8-13.9 points. The all-conference third team consists of all members of the third-place relay teams and athletes scoring 6-7.9 points.
