LSC Outdoor Track and Field Release - Week 2

The NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field season is officially underway, and Lone Star Conference athletes have recorded 77 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (35 men and 42 women).
 
Of those results, eight are the top marks in the country: West Texas A&M’s Isaac Botsio in the men’s 100-meters (10.09); Angelo State’s William Opare in the 400-meters (45.98); UT Tyler’s men’s 4x400 meter relay team of Dakalon Tyler, Preston Ayers, Caleb Williams and Jakai Timmons (3:08.16); WT’s Deborah Acheampong in the women’s 100-meters (11.33); WT’s Kalkidan Vincendeau in the women’s 5,000-mters (16:11.65); Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Yosiris Cordoba in the discus (52.77m); UT Tyler’s Juliane Frueh in the heptathlon (5443); and Oklahoma Christian’s Laniyah Curry in the women’s long jump (6.25m).
 
The 2026 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 24 men and 26 women.
 
The 2026 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 7-9 at West Texas A&M Track and Field Complex in Canyon, Texas (hosted by West Texas A&M). All 12 men’s teams and 13 women’s team can participate. West Texas A&M is the five-time defending conference champion on both the men’s and women’s side.
 
The NCAA Division II National Championship is set for May 21-23 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.

MEN’S TRACK
Taylor Briggs, Angelo State, So., Finance, McKinney, Texas
Angelo State sophomore Taylor Briggs recorded three NCAA Division II provisional times at the David Noble Relays in San Angelo, Texas. He won gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a 53.04, which ranks No. 12 in the country. He was also part of the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams, which clocked 39.88 and 3:08.69, respectively. The 4x100 time is third in the country, while the 4x400 time is second.
 
MEN’S FIELD
Christopher Gonzalez, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Fr., Kinesiology, Raymondville, Texas
In the first decathlon of his collegiate career, Texas A&M-Kingsville freshman Christopher Gonzalez scored a 6,266 at the David Noble Relays in San Angelo, Texas. The NCAA Division II provisional score ranks sixth in the entire country. Included in the result was a leap of 7.59m in the long jump. The decathlon and long jump results both rank inside the top 10 in program history.
 
WOMEN’S TRACK
Kalkidan Vincendeau, West Texas A&M, Sr., Sports and Exercise Science, Bordeaux, France
West Texas A&M senior Kalkidan Vincendeau ran the top 5,000-meters time in all of NCAA Division II this season with a 16:11.65 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. The time is the fourth best in program history. Vincendeau competed in a field of 187 of the top runners in the country from all divisions.
 
WOMEN’S FIELD
Juliane Frueh, UT Tyler, Jr., Economics, Munich, Germany
UT Tyler junior Juliane Frueh recorded the best heptathlon total in all of NCAA Division II this season with 5,443 points at the David Noble Relays in San Angelo, Texas. Frueh’s total was also a program record and was good for a bronze medal at the event, behind a pair of Division I competitors. She had a first-place finish in the 800-meter (2:15.57) and runner-up finishes in the javelin (35.36m), shot put (12.16m) and high jump (1.70m)
