Lone Star Conference outdoor track and field athletes have recorded 135 NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks (68 men and 67 women).
Of those results, 12 are the top marks in the country: Angelo State’s William Opare in the 400-meters (45.98); ASU’s men’s 4x400 meter relay team of Opare, Jahleel Armstrong, Rami Balti and Francis Patanpatan (3:06.24); WT’s Fran Bonifacic in the men’s decathlon (7,526 points); WT’s Blessing Akintoye in the women’s 200-meters (23.02); UT Tyler’s Aerin Thompson in the women’s 400-meters (52.26); WT’s Abigail Abugire in the women’s 800-meters (2:01.79) and 1,5000-meters (4:13.03); WT’s Kalkidan Vincendeau in the women’s 5,000-meters (16:11.65); WT’s Emiliia Tangara in the women’s 400 hurdles (56:41); UT Tyler women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Thomspon, Hannah Lakin, Kamaria Carr and Jasmine Haywood (3:35.31); Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Yosiris Cordoba in the women’s discus (53.57m) and WT’s Esther Conde-Turpin in the women’s heptathlon (6,161).
Conde-Turpin’s heptathlon total is an all-time Division II record.
She set the mark on April 1 at the 98th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Three WT athletes have been named U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week this season. Isaac Botsio
earned the honor on March 30, Conde-Turpin
got the nod on April 6 and Abugire
was awarded on April 20.
The
2026 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes to Watch List included 24 men and 26 women.
The 2026 LSC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 7-9 at
West Texas A&M Track and Field Complex in Canyon, Texas (hosted by West Texas A&M). All 12 men’s teams and 13 women’s team can participate. West Texas A&M is the five-time defending conference champion on both the men’s and women’s side.
The NCAA Division II National Championship is set for May 21-23 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kan.

MEN’S TRACK
Angelo State 4x100 Meter Relay Team (Bautista Diamante, Taylor Briggs, Francis Patanpatan, William Opare)
Angelo State’s 4x100 meter relay team of Bautista Diamante, Taylor Briggs, Francis Patanpatan and William Opare set a program record and won gold with a 39.75 at the Greyhound Open in Portales, N.M. The previous record was set in 1981. It is the third best time in all of NCAA Division II this season and tops in the conference.
MEN’S FIELD
Jonathan Wright, Angelo State, So., Mechanical Engineering, Coahoma, Texas
Angelo State sophomore Jonathan Wright won the pole vault with a 5.16m at the Greyhound Open. Wright’s personal-best mark ranks No. 12 in all of NCAA Division II this season.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Abigail Abugire, West Texas A&M, So., Undecided, Legon, Ghana
West Texas A&M sophomore Abigail Abugire ran the second fastest 800-meter time in NCAA Division II history with a 2:01.79 to win gold at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. The school record also topped a field of 134 runners from all NCAA divisions. Abugire added another program record with a 4:13.03 in the 1,500 meters. She finished fourth in the field of 119 runners.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Kennedy Johnson, Midwestern State, So., Business, Euless, Texas
Midwestern State sophomore Kennedy Johnson posted a school record in the triple jump with a 12.39m (40’ 7.75”) at the Joe Gillespie Invitational in Stephenville, Texas. Johnson’s mark, which broke her own record set last year, is the ninth best in all of NCAA Division II this season and tops in the LSC. Johnson took silver in the event only to a Division I competitor. At the meet, Johnson was also part of the bronze medal 4x100 meter relay team (47.17). She also posted a 12.07 in the 100 and 24.91 in the 200.
