Lone Star Conference women’s soccer league play is underway.
 
No. 4 DBU, No. 15 Texas Woman’s, Midwestern State and St. Mary’s all started LSC play 2-0. UT Dallas (1-0-1), Lubbock Christian (1-0-1) and UT Tyler (1-0) are also without a loss in the league standings.
 
DBU is scoring a league-best 4.2 goals per game. MSU and UTD have not allowed a goal in six matches. TWU has allowed just one – also over six matches.
 
DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. DBU’s McKenna Vela and Kenzi Tufts, and UTD’s Melyna Martinez were voted preseason players of the year.
 
The LSC women's soccer tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for Oct. 30 (first round), Nov. 2 (quarterfinals), Nov. 5 (semifinals) and Nov. 8 (final). The first round and quarterfinal matches are played at the site of the higher seed. The semifinals and final rounds are hosted by the No. 1 seed.
 
All LSC women’s soccer teams are eligible to win the regular season title and advance to the LSC and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE WOMEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Helen Lazaro, St. Mary’s, F, Fr., Business and Law, Garland, Texas
St. Mary’s freshman forward Helen Lazaro had a hat trick in a 3-1 game and registered a pair of game-winning goals to help the Rattlers start conference play 2-0. Lazaro needed just 1:19 to score on the road against Texas A&M International to fuel a 2-0 win. She then scored in the 12th, 53rd and 63rd minute to against UT Permian Basin. It was the fourth hat trick in the league this season. Lazaro’s play has also helped StMU to a 4-1-1 start to the season.
 
DEFENSIVE
Leeci Snyder, Midwestern State, D, Sr., Psychology, Seattle, Wash.
Midwestern State senior defender Leeci Snyder spearheaded a pair of conference shutouts and totaled four points. Snyder and company went on the road and dealt UT Permian Basin its first loss and shutout of the season. Snyder then scored a goal and dished out two assists against Eastern New Mexico. Snyder’s play has helped MSU to its best start in program history at 6-0 – all shutouts.
 
GOALKEEPER
Faith Graves, Texas Woman’s, GK, Jr., Business, Rockwall, Texas
Texas Woman’s junior goalkeeper Faith Graves recorded a pair of clean sheets to begin conference play against Oklahoma Christian and St. Edward’s. Graves made four saves to help the No. 15-ranked Pioneers improve to 6-0 overall. She played all 180 minutes. Graves has now had three consecutive shutouts and allowed only one goal over 515:55 this season.
