The Lone Star Conference volleyball season is officially underway.
All 18 league teams have played at least three matches. No. 14 Angelo State and UT Tyler are both 4-0, while eight schools have lost just one match.
UTT senior outside hitter Melanie Merrill was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s first
national player of the week of the 2026 season. She is just the second player in program history to win the honor, joining Mikayla Ware (2021).
ASU is the favorite to win the LSC regular season title this season, according the
preseason poll. ASU’s Madi Parrish, Texas Woman’s Alyssa Rojo and Lubbock Christian’s Camdyn Sears were voted
preseason players of the year.
The LSC volleyball tournament will feature the top nine teams and is set for Nov. 11-14 at the site of the No. 1 seed.
All LSC volleyball teams are eligible to win the regular season title and advance to the LSC and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments.

OFFENSIVE
Melanie Merrill, UT Tyler, OH, Sr., Psychology, Oro Valley, Ariz.
UT Tyler senior outside hitter Melanie Merrill led the Patriots to their first 4-0 start since 2023, including a win over No. 12 Central Oklahoma. Over 14 sets, Merrill had 51 kills with a .458 hitting percentage and added 11 blocks. In the 3-1 victory against UCO, Merrill had match-bests of 19 kills, a .432 hitting percentage and four blocks. Over the four matches (also including Arkansas-Monticello, LeMoyne-Owen and Southern Arkansas), she added eight digs.
DEFENSIVE
Aizlyn Dewberry, DBU, MB, So., Education, Wink, Texas
DBU sophomore middle blocker Aizlyn Dewberry had 18 blocks to help the Patriots start the season 3-1. She had team highs in blocks every match and totaled a match-high eight in a loss to No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney. Dewberry also added three digs as DBU topped Biola, Colorado Mesa and Mississippi Christian. Her play helped keep NK and MC to under a .200 hitting percentage. On the offensive side, she 26 kills with a .438 hitting percentage.
SETTER
Alayna Guerrero, Texas A&M-Kingsville, S, Sr., Kinesiology, Red Oak, Texas
Texas A&M-Kingsville senior setter Alayna Guerrero averaged 10.33 assists per set to lead the Javelinas to a 3-1 start to the season. She had a 41-assist, 15-dig performance in a sweep of Southern Arkansas. She also went for a match-high 33 assists with 14 digs in a four-set loss to No. 12 Central Oklahoma. Over the weekend, Guerrero totaled 43 digs and added eight kills and four blocks.
FRESHMAN
Kayson Reeves, Lubbock Christian, MB, Fr., Liberal Arts, Judsonia, Ark.
Lubbock Christian freshman middle blocker Kayson Reeves made an immediate two-way impact during her first collegiate weekend, helping the Lady Chaps to a 3-1 start. She had 15 blocks and 29 kills with a .317 hitting percentage. Reeves had six blocks against both Southwestern Oklahoma and Western Colorado and hit .727 against Sul Ross State. She also added two digs over the four matches.
