Lone Star Conference women’s soccer is two weeks in. All 15 teams have played at least three matches.
 
Five teams are still unbeaten: Midwestern State (4-0), No. 18 Texas Woman’s (4-0), UT Dallas (4-0), No. 7 DBU (3-0) and UT Permian Basin (3-0).
 
DBU is the favorite to win the LSC title this season, according the preseason poll. DBU’s McKenna Vela and Kenzi Tufts, and UT Dallas’ Melyna Martinez were voted preseason players of the year.
 
The LSC women's soccer tournament will feature the top eight teams and is set for Oct. 30 (first round), Nov. 2 (quarterfinals), Nov. 5 (semifinals) and Nov. 8 (final). The first round and quarterfinal matches are played at the site of the higher seed. The semifinals and final rounds are hosted by the No. 1 seed.
 
All LSC women’s soccer teams are eligible to win the regular season title and advance to the LSC and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments.

LONE STAR CONFERENCE WOMEN’S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

OFFENSIVE
Leah Hurley, DBU, MF, Fr., Marketing, College Station, Texas
DBU freshman midfielder Leah Hurley led the way for an offense that scored five goals in road wins over No. 4 UCCS and Regis. Hurley had the game-winning goal in the 69th minute against UCCS. It was the Mountain Lions’ first loss of the season. She assisted the game-winning score in a 2-0 victory against Regis. Hurley has helped the No. 7-ranked Patriots to a 3-0 start to the season – all away from home.
 
DEFENSIVE
Emma Best, UT Dallas, D, Jr., Education, Midlothian, Texas
UT Dallas junior defender Emma Best anchored a unit that recorded two road shutouts of Oklahoma Baptist and Missouri Southern State. Best, who played all 180 minutes, also scored the game-winning goal in the 31st minute against MSS. Her play has helped the Comets to a 4-0 start to the season without allowing a goal.
 
GOALKEEPER
Lauren Short, Midwestern State, GK, So., Pre-Veterinary, Frisco, Texas
Midwestern State sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Short recorded two clean sheets with seven saves in wins over Colorado Mesa and Central Oklahoma. Short had a season-high four saves in a 1-0 victory against UCO. She has helped the Mustangs begin the season 4-0 with four shutouts – surpassing her total of three clean sheets last year. It is also the first time since 2004 that MSU has shut out its first four opponents.
